Day 1: Cusco, Capital of the Inca Empire & Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park
Cusco - Begin the adventure with a transfer to the airport for a flight to Cusco, the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Upon arrival, a warm welcome awaits as the team escorts you to your hotel to settle in before an afternoon of exploration. The afternoon city tour promises a blend of history, mystery, and stunning landscapes. The first stop is the impressive Sacsayhuaman, a ceremonial fortress overlooking the city, where the massive stone walls—some over 4 meters high—continue to intrigue historians with their precise construction. The tour proceeds to Q’enqo, a mystical temple carved into a large rock, where ancient rituals honored the sacred Puma.
Parque Arqueológico Pisac - Experience the calming energy of Tambomachay, known for its sacred fountains believed to offer life and healing. Enjoy a panoramic view of Puca Pucara, the “Red Fortress,” a former military post with a commanding view of the valley. As you descend into the city, visit the Temple of the Sun – Korikancha, once adorned in gold and the most significant temple of the Inca Empire. Today, the Convent of Santo Domingo stands on its ruins, showcasing a stunning blend of colonial and ancient architecture. Conclude the day at Cusco’s iconic Main Square, where colonial elegance meets Andean spirit. Explore the Cathedral, a repository of religious art and home to the historic cross brought by the first Spanish conquerors. The day ends with an overnight stay in the enchanting city of Cusco.
Day 2: Sacred Valley of the Incas-Inca & Colonial Town of Pisac & Inkariy Museum
Sacred Valley of the Incas - Today, the Sacred Valley of the Incas welcomes visitors. The journey continues to Inca and Colonial Pisac. Discover one of the most stunning archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley atop the mountain, offering views of the colonial town of Pisac. Enjoy a walking tour of the Colonial town and shop at the handicraft market. Next, visit the remarkable Inkariy Museum, where a delightful lunch awaits. A guided tour of the museum reveals cultural representations of pre-Hispanic civilizations of ancient Peru. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.
Day 3: Sacred Valley-Maras Salt Mines, Moray Inca’s Terraces & Ollantaytambo, a Living Inca Town
Sacred Valley - The adventure continues to the lesser-known treasures of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The first stop is Moray, offering breathtaking views with its colossal concentric terraces resembling a coliseum. These terraces recreated 20 different microclimates, studied to enhance the empire’s agricultural production. The journey proceeds to Maras, the ancient colonial salt mines. The striking contrast of white pools against the green valley is postcard-perfect. Enjoy a buffet lunch. In the afternoon, visit the archaeological complex of Ollantaytambo, showcasing the Inca stonework techniques. Then, board the train at Ollantaytambo station to Aguas Calientes, where the staff will assist with settling into a hotel in Aguas Calientes (now Machu Picchu town).
Day 4: Machu Picchu, The Lost Citadel
Machu Picchu - Board the bus to ascend the winding road to Machu Picchu, with spectacular views of the Urubamba River and its canyon. The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, captivates with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, steps, and urban areas. The energy is palpable. After a guided tour, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. At the designated time, return to Cusco and transfer to the hotel.
