Cusco - Route of the Sun - Puno

Cusco - On the first day, guests will be collected from their hotel in Cusco at 6:30 a.m. to embark on the “Route of the Sun” journey towards Puno. This picturesque trip is taken on a tourist bus with several cultural and archaeological stops. The itinerary includes a visit to Oropesa, famous for its traditional bread, followed by a stop in Andahuaylillas to see the Church of San Pedro, often called the “Sistine Chapel of America” due to its stunning 16th-century colonial artwork. Like many Spanish religious buildings of that era, it was constructed over an ancient Inca sacred site.

Puno - The tour proceeds to Chacacupe to view the Inca and colonial bridges, then continues to Raqchi, a significant archaeological site with various structures, including the impressive Temple of Wiracocha, dedicated to the deity of the same name. After exploring Raqchi, a buffet lunch is served in Sicuani before heading to La Raya, the highest point between Cusco and Puno at 4,338 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the snowcapped Andes. The final stop is Pukara, known for its monolithic sculptures, vibrant ceramics, and pre-Inca cultural artifacts. The journey concludes with arrival in Puno around 5:30 p.m., followed by a transfer to the hotel for the night.

Lake Titicaca - Uros - Taquile - Return to Cusco

Lake Titicaca - On the second day, guests will be picked up from their hotel in Puno at 6:45 a.m. for a full-day boat tour of Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable lake. The first stop is the Uros Floating Islands, unique artificial islands made from layers of totora reeds and inhabited by the ancestral Uros people, who maintain traditions dating back centuries. After learning about their culture and lifestyle, the boat continues to Taquile Island, renowned for its experiential tourism and UNESCO-recognized textile art. Visitors can stroll along the island’s scenic paths, engage with the local community, and learn about their customs, rituals, and belief in protective mountain spirits, or Apus. Lunch is available on the island, with lake trout being the most recommended dish (lunch is not included).

Puno - The boat returns to Puno at approximately 5:00 p.m., allowing guests to relax at their hotel or explore the city independently. Later that evening, at 9:15 p.m., guests will be picked up from their hotel for the overnight bus back to Cusco. Arrival in Cusco is around 5:00 a.m. the following day, where the tour concludes at the Cusco terminal.

Throughout the experience, guests will navigate Lake Titicaca, which spans the border between Peru and Bolivia. The lake is one of South America’s largest and is considered the mythical birthplace of the Inca civilization. Its tranquil waters are known for their bright reflections, and the surrounding Titicaca National Reserve is home to rare aquatic species such as the giant Titicaca frog.
