The GOOD, The BAD, The UGGLY - The GOOD part is Machu Picchu itself. It was an incredible experience to get there and see the ancient historical city. It is a mix of emotion, mystique and wonder. It is incredible to see that the Inka civilization was light years ahead compared to what we have today. Simply a must-see visit. The BAD part is the distance between Cusco and Machu Picchu. You need to be relaxed and preferably with very good company, in my case, my wife. From our hotel in Cusco to Ollantaytambo it was 2 hours, then another hour and a half from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes by train (in fact, our trip took 3 extra hours!!), and finally another 40 minutes from Aguas Calientes to the old town. Phew!!😮‍💨 The UGGLY part is the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. It is operated by a company that is far from offering a good service. It took us an extra 3 hours to get to Aguas Calientes due to a landslide. Although natural phenomena do not depend on the train company, at least periodic information, free services (food and drinks), among other minimal actions, seem necessary to calm a group of travelers stuck on the train tracks with no idea how long they will have to stay there. And on the way back, the same thing: late boarding, lack of information, chaos, which “gifted” us with an extra 3 hours. In other words, a trip that lasted 6 hours longer than expected. This needs to be rethought, because it seems to me that the monopoly of actions on the train trip is bad for the user.

Machu Picchu – Beautiful but with room for improvement - Machu Picchu is a dreamlike place, but the problems with cleanliness and order are recognizable at first glance. I travelled with the support of Jim and his travel agency, which contributed to a great travel experience. The authorities in Peru should improve the order in Machu Picchu, otherwise it could lose the charm and magic that makes it so special as a world-famous destination.
