Along the way, visitors will explore the funerary towers of Ninamarca, a native town in Paucartambo, located 4 hours from Cusco. Here lies the Manu National Park (Acjanaco). In the cloud forest, one can observe cocks of the rock, quetzals, and a rich biodiversity.
Chullpas de Ninamarca - A chullpa or chullpar is an ancient funerary tower of Aymara and Quechua origin, featuring an angular or round base. These structures were originally built for individuals of high status in the Aymara and Inca cultures.1
The Collao chullparia tradition dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries, following the fall of Tiahuanaco. Its use as a mausoleum for authorities quickly became customary in areas adjacent to the highlands until the early 16th century (colonial-early).2
