Nevado Auzangate - The journey begins bright and early at 5:00 am with a hotel pickup in Cusco, followed by a picturesque 3-hour drive through traditional Andean villages towards the Upis community (4,250 m / 13,943 ft). After a hearty breakfast, the hike commences across the expansive plains of Upis Pampa, surrounded by grazing alpacas and stunning mountain vistas.
As the trek progresses, the towering glaciers of Ausangate Mountain (6,372 m / 20,906 ft) dominate the skyline. The route includes a visit to the breathtaking Upis Lagoon (4,480 m / 14,698 ft), a turquoise glacial lake ideal for photography and relaxation. By midday, the group arrives at Upis Hot Springs Camp (4,400 m / 14,435 ft), where participants can unwind in the natural thermal baths while taking in the awe-inspiring views of snow-capped peaks.
Upis – Arapa Pass – Pucacocha – Anantapata Camp
Anantapata – Warmisaya Pass – Rainbow Mountain – Ausangate Cocha
Rainbow Mountain Peru - The day starts before sunrise to reach Warmisaya Pass (4,985 m / 16,354 ft). From this vantage point, the first stunning views of Rainbow Mountain (5,100 m / 16,732 ft) are revealed. Arriving early allows for the appreciation of the vibrant mineral hues—reds, yellows, and greens—under the gentle morning light.
After exploring and capturing photos, there may be an opportunity to visit the nearby Red Valley if time allows. The group returns for lunch and then continues trekking through high Andean valleys towards Ausangate Cocha Camp (4,500 m / 14,763 ft), situated beside a beautiful turquoise glacial lake with magnificent views of the surrounding peaks.
Ausangate Cocha – Palomani Pass – Jampa Camp
Nevado Ausangate - This day is the most challenging of the trek. Following breakfast, the group embarks on a steady climb towards Palomani Pass (5,200 m / 17,060 ft), the highest point of the entire route. The ascent is demanding but rewarding, offering dramatic glacier views and expansive Andean landscapes.
From the summit, breathtaking panoramic views are enjoyed before descending into the lush valley of Huchuy Finaya for lunch. In the afternoon, the trek continues through open highland terrain known for wildlife such as vicuñas and chinchillas, reaching Jampa Camp (4,700 m / 15,419 ft) for dinner and rest.
Jampa – Ausangate 7 Lakes – Pacchanta – Cusco
Aguas Termales Pacchanta - On the final day, the hike leads to Jampa Pass (5,050 m / 16,568 ft), offering one last spectacular view of the Vilcanota mountain range. The descent follows into a valley adorned with the renowned Seven Lakes of Ausangate, celebrated for their vivid turquoise and emerald colors created by glacial meltwater.
The journey continues to the traditional village of Pacchanta (4,100 m / 13,450 ft), where participants can relax in the hot springs with views of Ausangate’s snowy summit. After a final lunch prepared by the trekking team, the group returns by private transport to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon.
