Dakar-Touba Baol-Lompoul
Senegal - An accredited tour guide will greet you at your location and accompany you on a journey to Ndem village in the Baol region, approximately a 2-hour drive. Here, you will enjoy a guided walking tour to explore the village and immerse yourself in the Wolof local culture, one of Senegal’s major tribes. The Baol region, centrally located in Senegal, was once a Wolof kingdom in the 16th century. The Wolof people are predominantly farmers, traders, and Muslims. Ndem is now recognized as an eco-friendly village, utilizing only clean energy sources like solar power for electricity. Thanks to a key community member, numerous development projects are underway, including water supply for agriculture and potable water, as well as the construction of social infrastructure like schools. Additionally, the community has established a clothing factory to provide employment for local youth and boost the local economy. Most garments produced in their factory are sold in major cities, with some exported to Europe.
Touba - The tour guide will continue the journey with you to Touba, a 1-hour drive away. Touba is the largest city in the Baol region and the capital of the Mouridism brotherhood, a branch of the Sufi order founded by Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, who is also regarded as a symbol of resistance against French colonization in Senegal. You will have a guided tour of the impressive grand mosque of Touba, constructed by the Mourid brotherhood. The local guide will explain the history of this brotherhood and its operations, as well as present the various Khalifas who have led the Mourid community. An annual pilgrimage attracts many people worldwide to celebrate the founder of the Mourid brotherhood, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké. His teachings emphasize hard work, tolerance, knowledge, and prayer. A short lunch break will be provided at a local restaurant.
Lompoul Desert - The tour guide will escort you to the Lompoul desert, driving through the savanna landscape, approximately a 2-hour drive. Upon arrival in the late afternoon, you will check into a lodge hotel. A guided walking tour around the stunning sand dunes will allow you to witness the breathtaking sunset. This small desert, covering an area of 18 km², is an ideal retreat for relaxation and hiking. Optional leisure activities such as camel riding or motorbike riding are also available.
Lompoul-Kayar-Dakar
Senegal - After breakfast at the Lompoul lodge, you can enjoy the surroundings until 10:00 am. Accompanied by your tour guide, you will then drive to Kayar village, home to a significant traditional fishing dock. A guided tour of this port will showcase its vibrant boats, bustling fish market, and the daily life of the local people. At the conclusion of your visit, you will return to your original location.
