City Tour Dakar - Goree Island
Island of Goree - After breakfast, embark on a city tour of Dakar. The first stop will be Independence Place, passing by the Presidential Palace and the main cathedral. Continue with a drive to the seafront towards Soumbedioune Market and the “Mosque de la Revelation.” The Dakar tour will highlight the contrasts between upscale residential areas and other popular neighborhoods. A visit to popular spots like Kermel, Tilene Market, Renaissance Monument, and Africa’s most modern Museum, the Museum of African Civilization, a massive four-story complex fulfilling the dreams of Senegal’s first president Leopold Sedar Senghor, is a must. At midday, board a ferry to Goree Island. Spend time exploring the quiet streets lined with colonial-era buildings. Your guide will show you one of the most famous buildings marking the history of Goree. See the “Door of No Return,” where millions passed on their way to slavery.
Pink Lake and Lompoul Desert
Lake Retba - After breakfast, depart Dakar for a drive to the Pink Lake, a significant center for salt collection. Upon arrival, observe how salt diggers harvest salt from the lake and women pile it up. Lunch is at your own expense, after which you will drive to the Lompoul Desert. Upon arrival, board a 4WD to the heart of the desert. Enjoy a wonderful experience in the Lompoul Desert with dinner while watching traditional ballet performances with Jembe drums, singing, and dancing around the campfire under the stars. There is also the possibility of a camel ride. This will be a memorable experience.
Lompoul – Saint Louis
Saint-Louis - Wake up for a 2-hour drive to the historic city of Saint Louis, the former capital of Senegal. Explore the town on a horse-drawn carriage. The city evokes memories of New Orleans with its wooden balconies lining the narrow streets.
Saint Louis – Touba – Kaolack
Touba - Depart for the holy city of Touba. Visit one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in all of West Africa, the Grand Mosque. Your guide will help you understand Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, the founder of Mouridism, and the history of Touba. Later, proceed to Kaolack with stops at Fulani and Wolof villages. Upon arrival in Kaolack, visit the local market before checking into your hotel.
Kaolack – Wassadou (Gate of Niokolo Koba Park)
Niokolo Koba Park – Kedougou
Kedougou – Dindefello – Kedougou
Kedougou – Toubacouta
Toubacouta – Fathala
Fathala Reserve - After breakfast, transfer to Fathala Reserve for a once-in-a-lifetime experience of the African bush with your guide. There is a great chance to see herds of the rare West African Giant Derby eland, only found in this region, and other antelope species such as roan, waterbuck, and bushbuck. You will also encounter giraffes, rhinos, buffalo, warthogs, as well as red colobus, green velvet, and red patas monkeys, and beautifully colored bird species among the giant African trees. Be ready with your camera to capture photos with the lions as you will have the opportunity to accompany them on foot.
Toubacouta – Joal Fadiouth – Saly
Joal Fadiouth - Depart for the twin village of Joal and Fadiouth. Joal is on the main island and is the birthplace of the first president, Leopold Senghor. Fadiouth is on a small island reached by a long wooden bridge composed entirely of oyster and clam shells that have accumulated over the centuries. Continue to Saly.
Saly – Bandia Safari Game Reserve
Reserve De Bandia - After breakfast, drive to Bandia Safari Reserve, a major attraction for tourists staying in Dakar or nearby areas.
