Wutai Shan (Five Terrace Mountain) - Wutaishan, one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in China, is the home of Manjusri Bodhisattva. It is renowned for its unique landscape of numerous Buddhist temples encircled by the Five Peaks, symbolizing the five types of wisdom of Manjusri.
The main attractions at Wutaishan are dispersed, with temples that blend Han Buddhist, Tibetan, and Mongolian Lamaist traditions, making it one of the premier locations in China to admire Buddhist architecture.
- Pusading Temple - The first stop is Pusa Ding. Accompany your tour guide up 108 steps to the temple and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Tibetan and Mongolian Lamas resided here during the Ming and Qing dynasties, believing that Wenshu Pusa once lived in this location.
Discover Wenshu Pavilion, which features an intriguing characteristic: rainwater is collected on the roof and drips down on sunny days.
- Tayuan Temple - Tayuan Temple features the 50-meter high Tibetan-style White Pagoda, designed by a Nepali in 1301, which has become an emblem of Wutai Shan.
Alongside the elegant temple, you will also see Wenshufa Pagoda (said to preserve Manjusri Bodhisattva’s hair) and the Dacangjing Pavilion (where volumes of books are stored).
Then, explore the markets and shops to find vendors selling incense, prayer beads, Buddhist booklets, and bronze Buddhas.
If time permits, you will also visit Nanshan Temple, home to 18 Ming dynasty arhat statues.
The tour includes a local lunch; simply inform your tour guide when you are ready.
After the tour concludes, you will be transported back to your hotel in Datong.
