- Lunugamvehera National Park Office - Established in 1995, Lunugamvehera National Park in Sri Lanka aims to safeguard the catchment area of the Lunugamvehera reservoir and the region’s wildlife. This park is a crucial habitat for water birds and elephants.
The catchment area plays a key role in maintaining the water levels of the five tanks downstream of Kirindi Oya and the wetland features of Bundala National Park. Additionally, this national park acts as a corridor for elephants migrating between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park.
The park has two entrances. Entering through the Weharagala entrance increases the likelihood of spotting the elusive Sri Lankan leopards and other wildlife. Therefore, the Weheragala entrance is preferred for accessing Lunugamvehera National Park.
