- Delphi - Established over 2,500 years ago, the globally acclaimed city of Delphi is a genuine treasure. In ancient times, this cultural and historical jewel was regarded as the center for most of Greece’s significant religious institutions. Its Acropolis hosted a major temple dedicated to Apollo and served as the ceremonial seat for many influential oracles. The famous sanctuary remains operational and has welcomed notable figures such as Alexander the Great, Charles Darwin, and Winston Churchill.
- Temple of Apollo - Known as the Pythian oracle and the oracular shrine to Apollon, the Temple of Apollo features over 100 columns in the largest Doric peristyle ever built. The oracle at Delphi was founded in the 7th century BC. The Pythian Games were held there every four years, and in 467 BC, these games were replaced by a Pythian festival that continued annually until Christian authorities closed it in AD 393. The site remained active until the 12th century when it was plundered by pirates led by the Norman adventurer Bohemond III of Antioch. The name “Olympia” originates from the Ancient Greek word “Olympia,” meaning “Pelvic.” However, the site had no building in its original form. The various sports and athletic contests were initially held within the opening of a natural stadium in the valley and were not part of any structure.
- Delphi Archaeological Museum - The Delphi Museum is dedicated to promoting the history and antiquities of Delphi and advancing archaeological studies in the region.
The permanent exhibition, which showcases significant artifacts of Greek archaeology, offers a comprehensive view of Delphi’s rich history and is divided into three chronological sections: pre-history, ancient Greek civilization, and Byzantine civilization. The exhibition also features objects from regional excavations and some notable works from other museums that enhance the archaeological collection.
- Arachova - Arachova is a charming town in northeast Greece, quickly becoming a popular tourist gateway to the central Aegean’s attractions. An emerging destination for locals, travelers curious about this region, and those seeking a retreat, it is a place where history meets modernity. The town, with its unique architectural style, is renowned for its beautiful terrace houses and waterfront promenade. Its homes are surrounded by gardens, often with sea views. The town’s beauty is also reflected in its waterfront promenade along the beach.
- Tholos of Athena Pronaia - Explore the Athena Pronaia Temple, a marvel of ancient Greece at the top of a narrow valley. As you enjoy the stunning natural scenery, be sure to walk up to Delphi at the foot of Mount Parnassus, where Greeks and non-Greeks alike visit the Delphic oracle.
- Church of Agios Georgios - The renowned Kamarinou Church was constructed in 1783 but fell into ruin by 1832, only to be revitalized with donations from across Greece in 2003. The church now serves as an informal museum for locals and displays a selection of religious artworks.
- Athens - Please be aware that there is travel time from Athens to Corinth Canal and Ancient Corinth, as well as back to your hotel in Athens once the tour concludes. The total duration, including transportation, is 6 hours.
- Agios Athanasios - The rock-cut chapel of Agios Athanasios was crafted by the monks of Mount Athos in the 18th century. It is carved into a natural outcrop and features an ornate iconostasis and a 15th-century fresco of the Annunciation. The monastery’s bell tower, known as “Laliotis” (the Bee), is one of the few such towers still inhabited by monks in Greece. Agios Athanasios Monastery was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990, and today it offers visitors a unique cultural experience, not only through the monastery itself but also through the community’s active role in revitalizing a rural village.
