Setting Sail to Savala

The allure of Fiji’s hidden gems has always been a siren call for me, and the Savala Island Cruise was no exception. As a former professional surfer, the ocean is my playground, and the promise of crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life was irresistible. Boarding the Oohlala Cruise from Port Denarau, I was immediately enveloped in the warmth of Fijian hospitality. The crew greeted us with genuine smiles and an infectious enthusiasm that set the tone for the day.

The journey to Savala Island took nearly two hours, but time seemed to slip away as we sailed through the stunning Mamanuca Islands. Back on land, the crew’s hospitality shone through as they joined us for a friendly game of volleyball. Laughter echoed across the beach, and the camaraderie among guests and crew made the experience feel like a gathering of old friends. The island’s serenity was complemented by the gentle strumming of a guitar, as Pana, the talented musician, serenaded us with soulful tunes.

No island adventure is complete without indulging in the local flavors, and the culinary offerings on Savala Island did not disappoint. The spread was a feast for the senses, with fresh fruit, coconut cakes, and a delicious homemade lunch that spoke of love and tradition. Sipping on fruit juice and wine, I savored each bite while the ocean whispered its timeless song.

As the day drew to a close, the realization that this idyllic escape was coming to an end brought a bittersweet feeling. The magic of Savala Island had woven its spell, leaving me with memories of laughter, music, and the boundless beauty of the ocean. As we sailed back to Denarau, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink—a fitting farewell to a day that felt like a dream.
