Personal Chariot: Tour Guide an excellent captain - Highly recommend for families wanting to avoid crowd, and easy walking. Beautiful island - only a picture tour - This review is more about the company and less about the employees. Employee at Sunar port was very pleasant and was doing what he can. Note to people looking to book: the start time is at least one hour before start time. Yes - so for 8 am they want you to be there between 6:30-7am. That’s little aggressive. We arrived at 7:40 am but got placed in 8:30 boat which didn’t leave until 8:45-8:50. Our experience had to be shortened and rushed. In general, other than crystal beach you will not get to go down to the shore. These tours are “picture tours”. You will take pics from top of the stairs as the beaches are on cliff side. It’s beautiful beaches, but, you will only get 5-10 mins may be 15 and picture with the other crowd. Driver was very skilled and meant well - but he kept lowering the AC in the car and told us it can not be more than a certain point. We sweated throughout the journey and it gets HOT! Nusa Penida is beautiful, the drive is beautiful, but these 8 hour trips are no way to truly enjoy the island and what it has to offer. You should spend 2-3 days on the island to enjoy otherwise you are just rushing around in traffic for “pictures”. Many other tourists in the same boat.

Better think twice before booking this tour! - We were looking forward to a relaxing day of beaches. We can't give this tour high marks whatsoever. 1. It's not relaxing. 2. This tour is a series of "guide handoffs". The taxi picks you up, brings you to the port. They take a picture of you and tell you to get on the fast boat, which holds a very tight 100+ people. When you get off the boat and walk a bit, your guide finds you with the help of the picture taken previously. (Why did I think this was a private tour from the get-go? Not sure! Maybe the word "private" threw me!). Going back, it's the same. 3. When we got off the fast boat, our private tour guide Puti was waiting. This was good. He was a very nice guy and very friendly. However... 4. He was parked pretty far out, probably having gotten there the last minute. It was a good walk, but ok, we like walking. 5. Then, he didn't have water. He had to stop twice to purchase water, as the first place didn't have cold bottles. Not very familiar with the stores, obviously. Next...6. He informed us that he was at a wedding the evening before and didn't feel great. He coughed the entire tour. No thought of a mask. At first, he coughed into his arm, but after a while, he abandoned that and just coughed into the air. He was obviously sick! Our thought is, if you are sick, don't take people on a tour and get them sick on their vacation! 7. Also, we thought we had paid for everything, but when we got to the Paluang Cliff, we were told we had to pay 30,000 Indonesian rupiah each, since it was a private area. (Note, the TripAdvIsor listing said "This grants you access to top sights such as the Insta-famous Kelingking Beach, Paluang Cliff, and Crystal Bay". ). And really, it was the same view as the previous stop, but all sorts of Instagraable setups! 9. But wait, there's more. Our biggest complaint was that he was texting and driving at the same time. Though he was an otherwise good driver, this was really scary, especially considering the "way-too-narrow" and pretty bad, bumpy roads with multiple blind curves. We called him on it, and he said he was responding to his boss, but he kept getting texts. We could see obviously this wasn't true as he was getting pictures and videos while driving. (See photos.) We asked him three times to stop texting while driving, the last when my husband and I were both raising our voices together in exasperation. He finally got it! (By the way, it's illegal to text and drive in Indonesia, and for good reason!) 10. He had some rudimentary English skills, but certainly not enough to be a tour guide. He had trouble understanding out questions and requests. 11. Note: This is advertised as an instagramable tour, and that it is. But if you're looking for beaches and a relaxing day, this isn't it. We finally asked our guide to take us to a beach resort where we could sit down and relax, which he willingly did. (that way he could sleep, which he did until we were ready to leave!) That was the nicest part of the tour!!! If you do go , plan on going up and down super steep inclines to get to the beaches! Do wear good shoes. It's pretty crowded too. (Very few people got down to the beach - you'd better be in super shape if that's what you want to do!)
