- Kaymakli Underground City - The journey begins at Kaymaklı Underground City, a site proudly listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visitors will be amazed by the array of facilities, including ventilation shafts, sleeping quarters, food storage rooms, living areas, churches, and graveyards. The ventilation system at Kaymakli ensured that every room received equal access to fresh air through air shafts on each level. Historically, Kaymakli was home to 5,000 residents. The most fascinating and impressive feature of Kaymakli is its meticulously organized, carved, and thoughtfully designed structure.
- Ihlara Valley - The next destination is Ihlara Valley, one of Turkey’s most breathtaking canyons, formed by the volcanic activity of Mount Hasan. The Valley stretches for fourteen kilometers and was historically inhabited by Christians. Visitors will enjoy a one-hour hike through the canyon along the river, passing Byzantine rock-cut churches adorned with frescoes. The area is surrounded by a variety of trees, including walnuts, poplars, weeping willows, various fruit trees, and even pistachios.
- Belisirma - Lunch will be served in Belisirma at a charming riverside restaurant.
- Selime Monastery - The tour continues with a drive to Selime Monastery, located at the end of Ihlara Valley. Although it resembles a castle, the presence of shelters, churches, chapels, bedrooms, storage areas, and a large cathedral confirms its status as a monastery. Experts estimate that it took over 200 years to construct the monastery, which could accommodate around 5,000 people. The tour guide will provide further insights.
- Pigeon Valley - Upon reaching Pigeon Valley, visitors will be greeted by pigeons at the top of the valley. Pigeons have always held significance for the people of Cappadocia, with their eggs and droppings serving various purposes. Consequently, locals carved homes for them into the valley slopes. The tour guide will share more about Pigeon Valley.
