What a great experience - My wife and I recently completed a superbe 6-day trek from McLeodGanj to Indrahar Pass via Triund with Manu Adventures India. From start to finish, the experience was seamless, enriching, and deeply memorable.
The trek itself was challenging at times (we were not 100% physically prepared) but the beauty of each day changing landscapes up to the dramatic high-altitude views of Indrahar Pass made up for it.
The team we went with, Anush our guide, as well as the cook and the horseman in charge of carting our equipment, was highly professional. We walked at our own pace and every campsite was well organized, the food was delicious and we always felt safe and cared for.
It was a great experience. Highly recommended.

Indrahar Pass - solo trip - I just finished a hike to Indrahar Pass organized with Manu Adventures. Whilst I did not hike up to the pass (a last minute change of plans) I hiked to Laka Glacier (base camp) - a stunning location at the foot of what is the final ascent to Indrahar Pass. I found the hike quite difficult due to the rugged terrain and steepness of the ascent / descent overall - from a starting elevation of 2,000m at Bhagsu Nag to the base camp at 3,400m. Many hike this in one day, but I was very glad this ascent was broken up over two days, with the first night's camp at Leta.
My experience with this company was excellent - the trek was easily organized from Australia with no hassle. Prior to trek departure I met my guide Ranu, porter Ringku, and Manu himself who briefed me on what to expect over the course of the trek. Despite how difficult I found the trek I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the amazing views. Honestly, I am glad to have avoided camping at Triund camp as it appears incredibly busy, noisy and dirty (a shame), where I prefer quietness and solitude which I found at the other campsites (despite the loud music from others that seems to be commonplace, and dogs barking!). I am immensely appreciative of Ranu's guidance - he has a lovely quietness, kindness and respect and never hesitated to check I was ok (and that I was warm enough at night!)! He worked with my pace, never pushing me. I discussed with him what the hike to the pass was like as Ranu is a highly experienced guide, local to the area, and I came to the conclusion it was beyond my physical capabilities to attempt the pass. I am not disappointed as I was pleased to make it to base camp!
Similarly, I was satisfied with the meals provided - more than enough!
I recommend Manu Adventures!

Memorable Trek - We have just had a remarkable experience with Manu Adventures. Manu and his team looked after us above and beyond. It was Indian hospitality at its finest. Food was fantastic. Tents were comfortable and clean. Everyone in the team were happy and joyful. On our hike to the Indrahar pass we were well looked after and not rushed. This was good as we are both in our sixties. We walked out together with Manu. At the end it was like leaving an old friend. Manu has organised drivers and other things for us. He has been a great help to make our Indian trip a memorable experience.

Amazing trek with Manu Adventures - Amazing trek organised by Manu Adventures.
We have just returned from the Indrahar Pass trek which Manu Adventures organised for my husband and myself and we were very fortunate to have Manu as our guide. We arranged the trek from Australia and Manu was very prompt and clear with return communication.
The trek itself was moderate difficulty, though the day trek up to Indrahar pass was relatively hard. We are 63 and 69 years young, but Manu was very kind and patient so we were able to reach the pass and return safely. "Slowly, slowly" The scenery throughout the trek was spectacular.
Manu Adventures was the best choice for us. The guides were great, the food was fabulous, the tents were clean and new and the camp sites were well chosen. All of Manu's staff were friendly, welcoming and made us feel comfortable.
What I didn't realise is that Manu could have organised other parts of our Indian trip such as our time in Delhi. I would have trusted him to make good sightseeing and accommodation choices.
I can't recommend Manu Adventures more highly.

Great Trek in Dharamsala - We went on a five-day trek to the “Laka Glacier” with “Manu Adventure”. The organization and preparation by the agency was professional. In addition to us (we, 2 Germans, 40 years old), the team consisted of 4 ponnies, a ponny guide, a cook and an English-speaking guide (his name is Manu Raghuwanshi). Our team took excellent care of us. The chef prepared fresh, vegetarian dishes every day. Of particular note is our guide Manu Raghuwanshi. He took great care of us around the clock. The trek itself was very beautiful but also strenuous. We had consistently good weather. I can highly recommend this trek for people without disabilities. Overall we were very satisfied..!! Many greetings from Germany

A dream Solo trip! - I had a great experience with Manu Adventures. The trek was difficult and arduous, but I was well taken care of at all times. The view from the top at Indrahar Pass were well worth the challenges en route! One could see all of the Dhauladhar Range snow-capped peaks on a clear day!
Special shout out to Manu for helping with every aspect of my trip. And I can't thank my guide Sooraj enough for going above and beyond to make my trek a dream!

मनु देवेंचर का पहारों में को मुबाई नहीं - Manu Adventures is the best company for trekking. The experience of the mountain guide and owner of Manu Adventure is quite excellent. That is, they come back only after winning in the mountains from difficult situations. Thank you to all the team of Manu Adventure to make our tour successful.

Dangerous but could have been beautiful - UPDATE: In response to Manu Adventures reply, giving false information and denying any responsibility for exposing us to these dangerous conditions.
Pre-trek Departure: you did not offer us snow equipment and you said the trek was suitable to do in regular hiking shoes (see photo).
Support: offering me to come to the office for “support” when the issues were up a mountain is nonsensical.
Video Posted: I was asked by our guide to make this video at the summit, before the issues began on the descent (which I also clearly stated below)

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
We completed the Indrahar Pass trek 3d2n April 2025 with Anuj. Anuj was very friendly but the trek was ruined by extremely poor safety standards.
The first day trekking to Snowline is lovely and I would recommend. The second day to Indrahar pass was where the problems began.
We had discussed in advance with Manu Adventures which treks would be appropriate at this time of year, as we did not have snow gear or mountaineering equipment. We only had regular trainers and no equipment at all. They told us this would be fine for this trek (see photo).
There had actually been a thick layer of recent snow, covering large parts of the track and requiring an ice axe to dig holes to the top. This was performed at the top of very steep slopes, requiring us to climb through the snow using our hands as handholds to stop ourselves from falling. On the way up, this was quite dangerous, but the snow was still frozen and could be relied upon to support weight.
On the way down, the snow was melting and this made it really dangerous. The route down is one of the steepest I have ever seen (I am a very experienced hiker) and was lethal. Everyone in the group was sliding and falling over and we were very worried about a serious injury. Then, Anuj, Lucky and the other team members wanted us to walk across the melting snow fields without any ropes or safety equipment at all. The snow was giving way and sliding all over the place, with a very real possibility of somebody falling to their death.
I voiced these concerns repeatedly, asking to be roped up and my concerns were ignored. The guides kept saying that there was no problem, we didn’t need ropes and it was just my “attitude” and that I needed to be “more positive” and “free my mind”.
This is absolutely inappropriate and showed that the guides clearly did not understand the risks associated with this type of mountaineering, which would usually require ropes, helmets, ice axes, crampons etc.
After raising my concerns several times, and multiple people falling and nearly injuring themselves, the guides decided we should slide down the central snow field using a rope attached to a boulder. This was also risky in parts, as the ropes were not long enough and somebody could easily have slid off the end without being able to control their speed. The guides tried to “catch” us so we wouldn’t fall down a huge steep slope.
After sliding down the snow field, it was clear the guides actually didn’t know where to go and started making up a route as they went along. They kept sending a scout ahead to look for a way down, often arguing amongst themselves about the way.
The sliding was fun, in some parts, when not too steep but other parts too dangerous. The guides didn’t even know how to coil the ropes up correctly to be used again. It did not give the impression they had good mountaineering experience.
They took us the wrong way and we ended up having to go back on ourselves to try and find another way down. The whole trek is supposed to take 6-7 hours and it took us nearly 13 hours.
Later, the guides told us they took us this strange route to avoid the “death zone” the other way. They also said it’s not usually so slippery, but this was due to too much snow and April getting too warm. Firstly, I was told this was a trek suitable to do in my trainers without any equipment - how on earth does that sound appropriate for a trek with a “death zone”? Secondly, it is the job of the company and mountain guide to perform a risk assessment and advise not to go ahead with the trek if the conditions are too dangerous.
I felt that the trek company just wanted us to do the longer trek because it cost more and risked serious injury or death of participants to do that.
I have done many treks around the world, through snow and at altitude, and I have never felt so unsafe on any other trek.
It is a shame, as it could be a great introduction to mountaineering with the right equipment and training. Unfortunately, it was not due to the poor safety standards.
Beautiful but not worth the risk.
