Super overall package - It was a thoroughly successful day, the tour guides and crew gave everything to make us have a nice day. Despite initially bad weather, they did not get confused. We saw dolphins very early and were able to snorkel with them. The spot wasn't quite so crowded either, so that was really pleasant. We've seen so many beautiful fish. Breakfast and lunch (in a village followed by a short village tour) was also good. A mega plus... Pictures are taken all day and provided in the evening at no additional cost!! The golden finish was a short tour of the slave caves. I can only recommend this trip to anyone.

Very pleasant experience, and free underwater photos and videos! - I’m usually sceptical and hesitant about these types of activities and thought 10 times before booking it. It turned out to be an amazing experience. Everything went in accordance with the description and schedule. Saw dolphins , and coral reefs, which are unfortunately in poor shape and hopefully recover soon in these protected areas. Still, very decent amount of beautiful fish species to see. Everyone onboard was professional and pleasant, with helpful guidance and security briefs. I did not feel like anyone was imposing anything on us or trying to push their agenda. They were honest and transparent about everything. They comforted everyone who was new to snorkelling (including myself) or diving, and took care of them throughout the tour. Beautiful underwater photos and videos are included at no extra charge, and were sent via link early morning next day! I saw another similar tour here on Tripadvisor that charged extra $60 for underwater photography.

Not booking it would be a serious mistake! - A really great day! With a minibus they picked us up at 6.30am directly from the resort where we were staying and after an hour’s journey we arrived in front of Wasini Island where a small wooden boat was waiting for us. They choose not to overload it with tourists to enjoy a relaxing experience, in fact we were only 8 over the staff. As soon as we left we were served a typical Swahili breakfast and tea or coffee. We were lucky enough to spot a group of about 5/6 dolphins, spectacular! Afterwards we stopped for about an hour on a coral reef to snorkel. If you are without them they provide them with mask and fins, so don't worry if you don't have them! The reef is varied and full of fish of all types and colors, we saw octopus, manta rays and even a puffer fish! Then after another half hour of sailing they took us to a strip of sand in the middle of the ocean where we could snorkel again or stay to relax. Afterwards we went to Wasini Island for lunch where we could choose between 3 menus: chicken, fish or vegetarian. A simple but satisfying lunch. Post lunch short walk in the Shimoni fishing village where they told us about their way of life and could also see a mangrove garden. Finally we return but not before visiting the slave caves, cramped and oppressive places where slaves were “crammed” under the watchful eye of many bats (!!) before being transferred and sold at the market in Zanzibar. The return is scheduled for about 17. A simple but really enjoyable trip, to do absolutely, made so by all the staff on the boat who did their best to make us feel as comfortable as possible! A final plus is that they take photos and videos, even in the water, of the whole day with a gopro. Last tip: lots of sunscreen, a dry change and ENJOY!

Perfect Day Tour - The crew made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable to be aboard the Nawal, amazing experience even when we had to go a little further to find more colorful sea life or when my partner assumed she wasn't a keen swimmer. Competent crew. Thank you! The food was delicious! Have the seafood.

Great day out at sea - Great day out. Even though we didn’t see any dolphins (and the crew went out of their way to find them) it was a beautiful trip and well worth the money

What to expect—a traveler’s diary of Wasini Island Tour (Diani Dhow Safari) - What to expect—a traveler’s diary. We were promptly picked up at our hotel at 6:15 as promised. We were greeted by a local man with a happy disposition and most importantly, he was a good driver. We were the first of four stops on the collection route for the 10 passengers. 6:50 The van was large and comfortable. One hour and 10 minutes later, we arrived at Kisiti-Mpunguti Marine Park. 8:00 After a short briefing about the Marine Park (no plastic bottles, etc) we walked the dock and boarded the boat where we were greeted with smiling faces by the host, captain & crew. “Who wants coffee? Who wants tea? We have fruit and pastries and roasted potatoes.” 8:30 Introductions and a briefing while we ate. The on board toilet was pointed out and our lunch order was taken (more about lunch later). The 45-min ride to the snorkeling site grew a little more than an hour partially because of the multiple dolphin sitings. I noticed the boat had twin outboard motors but only one was used. The captain assured me the unused motor was in working condition, “We only use that one as a backup.” The ride seemed slower and longer than many similar tours I have attended and I wished they would have been willing to use a little fuel to hurry things along (still not a deal breaker). The farther we went, the bluer the water—so nice. All snorkeling equipment provided (including prescription lenses which are basically readers ranging from 1.5-4.5). 10:00 Snorkeling reef was as promised, colorful with lots of life. We saw small stingray about the size of a frisbee and a large one about the size of a hula hoop. We snorkeled for about an hour. 11:10 Everyone got back in the boat for a small break followed by a 20-minute ride to a sandbar. There we had the option of staying on the boat, walking the sandbar and/or snorkeling again for 45 minutes. We chose stay on the boat and visit with the captain and boat hands. There was nice East African music and pleasant conversation. 12:10 Everyone returned to the boat. I should add that cold water and sodas are available at all times at no charge via a well-stocked ice chest at all times. Now for the 50-minute ride to the restaurant. The restaurant is located a short walk from the boat —mostly through ankle deep, yet gentle surf—kinda fun. The ancient looking stairs climb straight from the water to a typical (and tiny) coastal village where the restaurant was expecting us. Warm chapati (tortillas) were already on the table accompanied by a couple of very delicious dipping options as an appetizer. Appetizers also included a small but authentic crab leg which the waiters expertly cracked open for everyone plate side. A nice, yet unexpected touch. The menu options were chicken (which no one ordered) seafood which everyone ordered save one vegetarian. The vegetarian plate was a cabbage based medley of sliced and boiled veggies in a sauce. The fish was “catch the day” which happened to be White Snapper. Our boat host described soft and tender fillets — but they were all full “head on” whole fish. Fried but not battered. It was not what was described and equal to the cheapest fish dish available at every small village along the Indian ocean coats for about $10. There were a couple of guests who did not know what to do with a whole fish and the waiters stepped up immediately and offered assistance, deboning as they entertained. 2:15 After a leisure lunch we walked through the village to see a giant corral garden—some 8 feet tall—where the water used to be 10 feet deep before an earthquake raised that land area above the tides. 2:45 We returned to the boat for short ride to our starting place. I relieved to learn The last two stops we had been backtracking towards our point of origin of the long ride back was cut by 2/3. The last thing we did was tour an old Slave Cave location. These caves consisted of a series of cavernous rooms with very high (and a bit spooky) ceilings—all connected to one another. The Arabs captured slaves and this where they held them in chains while waiting for the next slave ship to arrive. By 4:00 we were on our way back to Diani Beach. It was along day (they could have explained the amount of time we would spend traveling). And the lunch description was boarding on false advertising (it is East Africa after all even though the owner claimed to be German). But all in all I would recommend it for anyone who reads this and agrees that the benefits outweigh the hardships.
