- Orlando Towers - The Orlando Towers are iconic landmarks in Soweto’s neighborhoods. Originally cooling towers for a coal-powered station that supplied electricity to Johannesburg for over 50 years, the station closed in 1998 and was converted into an entertainment and sports center in 2008. The towers are vibrantly painted and often used for advertising.
- Vilakazi Street - Vilakazi Street is a renowned attraction with historical importance. It is the only street globally where two Nobel Prize winners once resided. The homes of the late President Mandela and the late Archbishop Emeritus Tutu are located here. Visitors have time to explore the flea market offering clothes, artifacts, and curios. Sakhumzi restaurant, near Mandela’s house, serves a South African cuisine buffet with dishes like dumplings, rice, pap, samp, and tripe, along with beef stew, sausages, chicken, vegetables, salads, and desserts. Light lunch options are also available, and lunch is optional.
- Mandela House - The Mandela Museum House on Vilakazi Street, Soweto, was constructed in 1945 by the Johannesburg City Council. Mandela lived here before his imprisonment. The house offers a meaningful experience, educating visitors about Nelson Mandela’s life and promoting human rights, democracy, reconciliation, mutual respect, and tolerance among South Africans and the international community. Visitors can see where the statesman lived.
- Apartheid Museum - The museum’s exterior symbolizes the events of Apartheid and South Africa’s journey to reconcile with its past. At the entrance, the seven pillars represent the seven core values of the country’s constitution: democracy, equality, reconciliation, diversity, responsibility, respect, and freedom. Visitors can learn about the impact of Apartheid policies on South Africans. Inside, the museum features 22 exhibitions with film footage, photographs, text panels, and artifacts. It serves as a beacon of hope, illustrating South Africa’s efforts to overcome its oppressive history and build a future for all. The Mandela exhibition explores his extraordinary life through seven themes: CHARACTER, COMRADE, LEADER, PENSIONER, NEGOTIATOR, and STATESMAN.

In Soweto, we drive through Diepkloof Extension, hostels, and family units, pass Baragwanath hospital, squatter camps/ informal settlements, and Orlando Towers on our way to the Popular attraction-Vilakazi Street where Mandela house is situated. At Apartheid Museum you do the tour of a series of 22 individual exhibitions that include film footage, Photographs, Text panels, and Artefacts depicting how Apartheid affected the people of South Africa. Apartheid museum is also a beacon of hope, you learn how South Africa is coming to terms with its oppressive past and working towards a future that all South Africans can call their own. You also do the tour of Mandela exhibition where Mandela’s extraordinary life is explored through seven themes: CHARACTER, COMRADE, LEADER, PENSIONER, NEGOTIATOR, and STATESMAN.
