Along the route, visitors can explore ancient structures like beehive huts and stone ring forts. “Hold a baby lamb” is a popular activity, with a €4 per person fee to visit the lambs, beehive huts, and a stone ring fort.
- Coumeenoole Beach - Near a Star Wars filming location on Dunmore Head, Coumeenoole Strand offers stunning photography opportunities or a chance to relax by the water’s edge. The beach provides breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, especially at low tide or from the walkway leading to the sands, making it a favorite spot for many.
- Dun Chaoin Pier - The iconic winding path to Dunquin Pier was historically the departure point for settlers to the Great Blasket Island. Today, it serves as a launch point for tripper boats to the island. The path offers spectacular views from the cliff tops, with the option to descend the steep path for photos from lower vantage points.
- Clogher Strand - At Clogher Head, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Dingle Peninsula’s western edge. This expansive vista also overlooks the 2016 Star Wars filming location at Sybil Head.
- Gallarus Oratory - A scenic 15-minute drive takes visitors to the 8th-century Gallarus Oratory, a remarkable example of ancient stone architecture.
- Kilmalkedar Church - This 12th-century Romanesque church ruin, built on an earlier monastic site, features a unique standing stone with a “needle hole” and ogham script. Nearby, a large stone cross and St. Brendan’s House offer excellent views of the church in its rural setting. The area also includes the Keelers, a bullaun stone, a cross-marked well, and the ancient stone ring fort at Caherdorgan, along with the ruins of St. Brendan’s Oratory.
- Dingle - After visiting Kilmalkedar Church, the tour returns to Dingle for a 15-minute scenic drive and a lunch break in this historic maritime and fishing town.
- Dingle Peninsula - Post-lunch, the tour explores historical and cultural sites east of Dingle, including a famine tower, a medieval stone bridge, and a grotto above Dingle Bay. The journey follows narrow lanes through stunning scenery towards Minard Castle.
- Minard Castle - Known as one of Ireland’s most scenic castles, it is situated by a stream flowing into Dingle Bay. Visitors can explore various views from the boulder beach and walk on the sand if the tide permits.
- Lough Anascaul - From Minard Castle, the tour heads to Anascaul village, taking the old road up the hill for breathtaking views. This part of the tour passes several abandoned ruins. There’s also time to visit the cemetery where local Antarctic explorer Tom Crean is buried. The tour concludes with a journey back to Dingle via the ancient road.

On this Heritage tour of the Dingle Peninsula, participants will discover and explore numerous significant sites while enjoying breathtaking scenery. In addition to enhancing photography and composition skills with any camera or phone, the operator is delighted to use their own photography expertise to capture stunning photos of participants against the beautiful backdrop of the Dingle Peninsula.
Participants can simply relax and enjoy this wonderful tour, or if they wish to capture special moments at the fabulous locations visited, the operator will offer tips and guidance on improving photography with any camera or phone. All locations are easily accessible, with no strenuous walking or climbing required!
The operator has been a frequent visitor to the Dingle Peninsula throughout their life, as their mother was originally from Dingle. Having lived there for over 20 years, the operator has spent the majority of the last 30 years discovering great locations and the best spots to capture the area’s beauty as a local landscape photographer.
