It is believed they initially struggled to find fresh water, but eventually discovered a source about 5 miles west, which they named Rio Bueno (“Good River”) due to its quality. In 1947, the town was renamed Discovery Bay, marking the spot where Columbus and the Spanish first landed on May 4, 1494. The park features various relics and artifacts, offering a brief stop for photos and a glimpse into the town’s rich history.

• Nine Miles - Bob Marley, born on February 6th, 1945, and passing on May 11th, 1981, is celebrated in the small town of Nine Miles. This village in the hills of St. Ann is a must-visit for tourists from Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Montego Bay, and even Negril. Nine Miles is not only Marley’s birthplace but also his final resting place.

Though Marley moved to Kingston at 13 to live with his mother and pursue his music career, he frequently returned to Nine Miles to escape the hustle of city life. It was here in St. Ann that he wrote many of his hit songs, as it always remained his true home.
