Archaeological Museum of Dion - Situated in the modern-day settlement of Dion, just 500 meters from the entrance to the archaeological site, the museum showcases finds from various excavations over the years. The exhibits are organized according to the areas from which they were unearthed, including discoveries from ancient Pydna and other archaeological sites in Pieria. In the basement, visitors can watch an educational film titled “Daily Life in Ancient Dion,” along with screenings of audiovisual materials related to ancient Dion and Olympus.
Litochoro - After enjoying lunch in the village of Dion, the journey continues to the foothills of Mount Olympus, reaching the scenic village of Litochoro, where the day and night will be spent. Litochoro is the closest location to Mount Olympus at sea level, making it a popular starting point for those wishing to climb the mountain. Historical Information Center Thermopylon - This tranquil valley gently descends to the Maliakos Gulf. In ancient times, it was a bottleneck, a small stage set for a grand drama. One summer day in 480 BC, with the sun obscured by the arrows of the Persian army, the Greeks gained strategic and tactical advantage. They delayed the Persian advance for several days, leading to betrayal and a battle that resulted in execution. Visitors can watch a 3-D movie to learn more about the battle.
Leonidas Monument - To conclude the visit, the statue of Leonidas can be seen standing directly opposite Kolonos Hill, where the steadfast Spartans took their last breath.
Kamena Vourla - On the return journey to Athens, there will be a stop at the coastal town of Kamena Vourla, where a relaxing, traditional Greek lunch by the sea can be enjoyed. The tour concludes with a safe and pleasant drive back to Athens.
