• War Remnants Museum - Previously known as the Museum of American War Crimes, this museum offers a powerful portrayal of the senselessness of war. The ‘Requiem’ exhibit features moving black and white photographs, honoring both international and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who lost their lives during the conflict. It includes the final images captured by these photographers before their untimely deaths. The outdoor courtyard showcases war relics, including rusting jets, tanks, and cannons seized from the American military.
• The Independence Palace - This is a significant landmark in the city. On April 30, 1975, the event known to the Vietnamese as the end of the ‘American War’ occurred here when tank number 843 from the North Vietnamese Army broke through the gates of what was then the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam.
• Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral - Constructed between 1877 and 1883, this cathedral is a prime example of classical French colonial architecture. Impressively, every stone used in its construction was transported from France to Vietnam. The Old Post Office, another example of French colonial architecture, is also the largest post office in the country.
