• The Venerable Thich Quang Duc Monument - On June 11, 1963, Thich Quang Duc traveled from the war-torn city of Huế to Saigon in an Austin Westminster. He exited the light blue car at a bustling intersection, sat peacefully in the lotus position, and a colleague poured gasoline from a five-gallon container over him. Surrounded by a circle of protesters, he set himself on fire. In his final note, he expressed: “I respectfully plead to President Ngo Dinh Diem to adopt a compassionate mindset towards the people of the nation and ensure religious equality to sustain the homeland’s strength eternally.”

In 2010, a memorial was erected at the very corner where he passed away half a century earlier, depicting the monk engulfed in flames. Before the statue, which stands in front of a bas-relief illustrating the impactful event, American journalist Malcolm Browne’s photographs served as the most accessible reminders of the incident.

• Cầu Ba Son - The Thu Thiem 2 cable-stayed bridge is a new landmark in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, showcasing Finnish bridge expertise at its finest: a stunning cable-stayed bridge spanning the Saigon River through the city. The bridge’s backward sloping and curved pylon is distinctive, forming a unique landmark in Ho Chi Minh City. Despite its unusual shape, the bridge’s structural design is optimal.

The 200-meter main span of the asymmetric cable-stayed bridge is a lightweight composite structure of steel and concrete, while the 115-meter back span is a concrete structure.
