As a boat nears the coastline by the Old Doha Port, the museum’s distinctive silhouette becomes the focal point.
Interlocking Disks: From afar, hundreds of sand-colored disks of various sizes and shapes are visible. Architect Jean Nouvel designed these “petals” to mimic the desert rose, a mineral crystal found in Qatar’s coastal salt flats.
The Horizon Line: Unlike the nearby vertical skyscrapers, the NMoQ is expansive and horizontal. From the sea, it seems to “embrace” the ground, offering a gentle, organic contrast to the sharp city skyline behind it.
