Tiananmen Square - Begin the day with a visit to Tiananmen Square, the largest square in the world, renowned for its historical significance. The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and the Great Hall of the People are located here. Originally part of the Forbidden City during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it became a square in 1949 following the revolution.
Forbidden City-The Palace Museum - Entering through the Tiananmen Gate, explore the Forbidden City, constructed 600 years ago at the start of the Ming Dynasty. It served as the imperial palace for both the Ming and Qing Dynasties. With over 8,400 rooms, it is the largest palace in the world. The front area features three Grand Halls for the emperor’s official duties, while the rear area houses the residential quarters for the emperor and his concubines. Walk along the central axis from the south gate to the north gate.
Enjoy lunch at a popular local roast duck restaurant situated in an old courtyard.
Please note that the Forbidden City is closed every Monday. On such days, the itinerary will include a visit to the Summer Palace or Lama Temple instead.
Temple of Heaven - After lunch, visit another UNESCO World Heritage site, the Temple of Heaven. This site was where ancient Chinese emperors prayed for a bountiful harvest. Its architectural design is a masterpiece of ancient Chinese culture. The surrounding park is a hub for locals engaging in morning exercises, including Tai Chi, dancing, and singing Peking Opera.
After visiting the Temple of Heaven, return to your hotel.
Beijing
Mutianyu Great Wall - In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in downtown Beijing and driven to the renowned Mutianyu Great Wall. This section is the best-preserved and most picturesque part of the Great Wall near Beijing, and it is less crowded than other sections. The breathtaking scenery varies beautifully with each season, and the round-trip cable car ride is included.
Following the visit to the Mutianyu Great Wall, enjoy a delicious lunch at a popular local restaurant.
Nanluoguxiang - Proceed to Nanluoguxiang Hutong, the most famous old hutong in Beijing. This narrow alley is part of the historic city center, featuring both traditional and modern architecture. The area is characterized by its typical narrow streets, known as hutongs.
The alley stretches approximately 800 meters, from East Gulou Street in the north to Di’anmen East Street in the south. Built during the Yuan Dynasty, it received its current name in the Qing Dynasty around 1750. Recently, the hutongs have become a popular tourist destination, offering restaurants, bars, live music venues, coffee shops, fast food outlets, and souvenir shops, along with some old siheyuan linked to notable historical and literary figures.
After exploring Nanluoguxiang Hutong, you can be driven back to your hotel or dropped off at Beijing International Airport or train station, as per your request.
