- Jukdo Market - Pohang Jukdo Market stands as the largest traditional market on the east coast of Gyeongbuk, boasting around 1,500 shops. The once somewhat chaotic old market, which extended to the port, has been neatly renovated, preserving its local charm while enhancing its facilities and environment for a more modern look. With fresh seafood and lively merchants, this place is a culinary paradise, featuring up to 200 raw fish restaurants. Visitors can savor Pohang’s unique gochujang mulhoe without broth, where freshly sliced live fish is mixed with fresh vegetables and sesame oil gochujang, offering an exquisite taste. The Jeonbok porridge, made with plump whole abalone, is renowned nationwide, and in winter, Pohang’s specialty, gwamegi (dried fish), is a must-try.
- Guryongpo Japanese House Street - In Guryongpo, visitors can find Japanese houses that have stood for over a century, maintaining their original state. The alleys of Jangandong in Guryongpo, once Japanese residences during the colonial period, still retain a Japanese ambiance, reminiscent of a movie scene. Notably, these alleys served as a filming location for the popular drama ‘Eyes of Dawn’ several years ago. A park, created by the Japanese, is located on the mountain behind the houses. By climbing the steep stone steps, visitors can reach the park and discover the Yongwangdang, where prayers for sailors’ safety were once offered. The Japanese constructed a group residence, adorned a park on the back mountain overlooking the ocean, and inscribed their names on monuments. However, upon their departure, they covered the records with cement, inverted the monuments, and engraved the names of Guryongpo patriots.
- Oeosa Temple of Unjesan Mountain - Situated in Hangsa-ri, Ocheon-eup, ‘Oeoji’ is a prominent tourist spot in Pohang, alongside the stunning natural beauty of Unjesan Mountain and Oeosa Temple, a thousand-year-old Silla temple, attracting visitors year-round. On clear days, the mountain’s shadow reflects in the tranquil reservoir, creating a breathtaking view. The scenery varies with the seasons, reaching its peak beauty in the fall when the leaves change color. The temple, founded during the reign of King Jinpyeong, the 26th king of Silla, was originally named Hangsa Temple. It is said that Wonhyo Daesa and Hyegong Seonsa practiced asceticism here, competing to revive dead fish in the stream using their Buddhist powers.
- Igari Anchor Observatory - Shaped like an anchor securing a ship near the picturesque Igari Beach and surrounded by blue pine trees, the observatory stands 10m high and 102m long, offering a panoramic view of the stunning Igari Beach and the refreshing sea of Pohang. It is a popular spot for tourists, having served as the main filming location for the hit drama ‘My Perfect Secretary’ aired on SBS.
- Yeongildae Beach - The road next to Yeongil Beach, once bustling with cars and citizens, has been transformed into a pedestrian-friendly area, providing a relaxing space for both locals and tourists. With approximately 50 raw fish restaurants nearby, visitors can enjoy Pohang’s specialties like mulhoe (raw fish) and assorted raw fish. Flanked by Songdo Beach and POSCO to the right and Hwanho Sunrise Park to the left, it offers a particularly stunning night view, attracting many visitors even outside the beach season. With around 80 businesses, including raw fish restaurants and eateries, it is a key tourist destination in Pohang, perfect for creating memorable experiences by the ocean.
- Space Walk - “Space Walk” embodies the dual concept of leaving a spaceship and floating through space, or walking through space. The looping form of the work symbolizes the movement of space, and the act of walking through its high, curved structure connects to the sensation of floating through space.
