A Journey to the Heart of Nature

The sun had barely risen when my wife and I found ourselves being whisked away by Byron, our driver for the day, in a cozy van. The early morning air was crisp, and the promise of adventure hung thick in the air. As we settled into the comfortable seats, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation. The drive to Sensoria was long, about three hours from our base at the JW Marriott, but the journey was smooth, and Byron’s easy-going nature made the time fly by.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Abbie, our guide for the day. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and her knowledge of the area was impressive. She matched our pace perfectly, allowing us to linger in spots that captivated us and moving on when we were ready. Our first stop was the observation platform, El Mirador. Despite the overcast sky, the view was breathtaking. It was here that we encountered our first wildlife sighting—a pit viper, coiled and watchful. Abbie expertly used our phones to capture close-up shots, ensuring we had memories to take home.

Immersed in the Wilderness

As we ventured deeper into the lush landscape, the sounds of the forest enveloped us. The guides communicated via radios, and when an anteater was spotted, we hurried to catch a glimpse. There it was, perched in a tree, seemingly unbothered by our presence. The forest was alive with birds and lizards, each adding to the symphony of nature.

Abbie’s expertise shone as she introduced us to the local flora and fauna. We even tried termites, which surprisingly had a minty taste. The highlight, however, was the waterfalls. The first one we encountered was straight out of a movie scene, its cascading waters inviting us to take a dip. We couldn’t resist and soon found ourselves swimming in the cool, refreshing pool.

The adventure continued as we visited a series of thermal pools, each one warmer than the last. It was a rejuvenating experience, and we felt a deep connection to the natural world around us. Abbie’s stories and insights enriched our journey, making it all the more memorable.

A Feast for the Senses

As our tour came to an end, we were treated to a delicious lunch at La Casona. The meal was a delightful blend of flavors, and we savored every bite. Our adventure wasn’t over yet, though. On the drive back, Byron’s keen eyes spotted a sloth lazily hanging from a tree, a coati darting across the road, and a pair of toucans perched high above. Each stop was a reminder of the incredible biodiversity that Costa Rica has to offer.

Despite getting caught in a torrential downpour towards the end of our tour, our spirits remained high. The ponchos Byron had suggested we purchase proved invaluable, and we were grateful for the dry clothes we had stashed in the lockers. The drive back took longer than expected due to traffic, but the day’s experiences made every moment worthwhile.

Our journey to Sensoria was a reminder of the beauty and wonder that lies in the heart of nature.
