- D-Pempelforter Straße U - The new Wehrhahn line is one of the special attractions of the city of Düsseldorf. The design concept for the six underground stations was developed by network architects Darmstadt and the artists Heike Klussmann (Pempelforter Straße), Ursula Damm (Schadowstraße), Ralf Brög (Heinrich-Heine-Allee), Thomas Stricker (Benrather Straße), Manuel Franke (Graf-Adolf-Platz) and Enne Haehnle (Kirchplatz) developed and implemented together with the engineers.
Each station has an individual character that has painterly, sculptural, interactive, tonal or geometric qualities. The route itself was realized as an underground space continuum, similar to a snake that expands at every station.
“Art and Magic in a German Metro” - this is how the New York Times describes this spectacular subway line.
The six new underground stations are reached by underground: Pempelforter Straße / Schadowstraße / Heinrich-Heine-Allee / Benrather Straße / Graf-Adolf-Platz / Kirchplatz (end)

“Art and Magic in a German Metro” was the headline in the New York Times celebrating the inauguration of the 3.4-kilometer-long Weir Tap Line. The underground track installation has not only eased city traffic but also opened new artistic avenues in Düsseldorf. Discover the captivating experience on this tour! Six subway stations*, six artists, each contributing to the design concept. In collaboration with the city, architects, and engineers, former students of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf have successfully integrated art into the daily lives of over 50,000 commuters, each with unique ideas. One station transforms into a sound world, another into a space station, while the next stop presents a steel poem – or perhaps a mystery? Become a protagonist and explore how the “continuum” aesthetically links the individual stations. Art throughout the entire (Wehrhahn) line!
