Dubai Spice Souk - Despite Dubai’s stunning architecture and modern lifestyle, there’s a wealth of culture to explore. Today, we highlight one of our favorite spots, the Dubai Spice Souk. This traditional Arabian market is a sensory delight and a must-visit when in Dubai. Nestled in the narrow lanes of Deira, the spice souk offers an aromatic journey. Prepare to inhale the mystical and fragrant spices from across the Arabian Peninsula while enjoying the vibrant colors of the surroundings.
-
Bastakia Quarter - The history of Al Bastakiya dates back to the era of seafaring trade in Dubai when the trade business flourished in the old neighborhood of Khor Dubai, also known as the creek or Old Dubai. Built in the 19th century by Mr. Qasim Bin Abdullah Al Bastaki, the construction was funded by wealthy textile and pearl merchants of Dubai. Covering an area of 300 square meters, what was once a dull, old neighborhood is now a maze of historical wonders that capture the true essence of Old Dubai. Legend has it that a visit from Prince Charles halted a massive renovation, as he deemed the area too precious to demolish.
-
Hami Perfumes - Follow the road from the Gold and Spice Souks to Deira’s Perfume Souk on Sikkat Al Khali Street. Specializing in all things scented, from pure perfume to essential oils, incense sticks, and the exotic traditional oud, this trading spot offers beautifully fragranced options for everyone. Purchase rich oils in bulk, stored in wholesale-sized flagons, or choose ornate vials for those who prefer to dab perfume on their pulse points. It’s also the ideal place to have a personal fragrance crafted and bottled by skilled perfumers.
-
Bur Dubai Abra Station - A scenic Abra Souk ride offers stunning views of both sides of the Creek and the activities along the waterway. Late evenings, as the sun sets, provide a fantastic photo opportunity capturing the wonder and magic of the sunset. Abra charges are approximately AED 1, which is about USD 0.30, and you can enjoy multiple rides on the Abra Souk. This allows for unique perspectives along the Creek. At the Abra station, you’ll find many wooden boats docked. Some offer periodic single ride services (AED 1 per ride), while others provide private charters for visitors. Embrace the chance to ride the Abra Souk by standing at the edge of the Creek and enjoying the sight of wooden boats gracefully sailing with the waves.
-
Deira Old Souk Marine Transport Station - Information & Ticket Office - One of the main Abra connection lines in Dubai is between Deira Old Souk, an area featuring old Souks, and Bur Dubai, part of the modern city. The distance between the Souks and Bur Dubai is about a 5-minute boat ride. The Abra Souk travels both ways, connecting different stations on both sides of the Creek. An Abra can accommodate about 20 passengers, and there are approximately 150 Abras between Deira Souks and Bur Dubai. Each journey takes no more than five minutes. Purchase a one-way ticket, or better yet, hire your own Abra for up to an hour to further explore the creek.
