It hosts numerous scenes with the Tyrell family (Lady Olenna, Margaery, and Loras) and other characters from Game of Thrones, including Jaime and Bronn’s swordfight training and Oberyn and Cersei’s negotiation before Tyrion’s trial.
Beyond its role as a memorable show location, Trsteno Arboretum is Croatia’s oldest and largest garden architecture monument. Established in 1494, it was once an aristocratic estate and boasts around 500 plant species from various climatic zones.
- Sveti Jakov Beach - Near St Jacob Beach (Sveti Jakov in Croatian), the former Belvedere Hotel is a fascinating Game of Thrones filming site, known for the infamous Trial by Combat between Prince Oberyn and the Mountain.
This modern structure, built in 1985, operated for only six years before being damaged during the 1991-1992 siege of Dubrovnik. In 2014, HBO ingeniously transformed the hotel’s lower plateau into the arena where the overconfident Prince Oberyn met his dramatic end at the hands of the Mountain in a shocking scene from Game of Thrones Season 4.
