Setting Sail on the Adriatic

As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours riding the waves and exploring the world’s most beautiful beaches. But when I heard about the Sandy Beach Adventure in Dubrovnik, I knew I had to experience it for myself. The promise of exploring sea caves, lounging on sandy beaches, and enjoying a few drinks along the way was too tempting to resist.

The adventure began as we boarded the boat, a lively group of twelve, including a mix of Kiwis, Dutch, and Norwegians. Our guide, Dorien, was a charismatic presence, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and ready for the journey ahead. As we set off, the boat’s speed and the ocean breeze created an exhilarating start to our day.

Exploring the Caves

Our first stop was the mesmerizing Blue Cave. With snorkeling goggles provided, we dove into the crystal-clear waters, exploring the vibrant marine life beneath the surface. The cave’s ethereal glow was a sight to behold, and I couldn’t help but feel a deep connection to the ocean, reminiscent of my surfing days.

Next, we ventured to the Green Caves, each one offering a unique experience. The final cave was a bit more challenging, perfect for those seeking a thrill. As someone who thrives on adventure, I relished the opportunity to push my limits and explore these hidden gems.

Relaxing on Sandy Beach Šunj

After our cave explorations, we made our way to the famous Sandy Beach Šunj. Here, we lounged on comfortable sunbeds, sipping on drinks and enjoying the warm sun. Although the drinks weren’t included, the camaraderie among our group made the experience all the more enjoyable.

As we relaxed, a rather unexpected sight caught our attention—a naked man performing a rather enthusiastic dance on the rocks. It was a humorous moment that added to the day’s adventure, reminding us of the carefree spirit of island life.

With the boat restocked with beer, thanks to our fellow Kiwi Rachel, we set off on our return journey to Dubrovnik. The sense of belonging and camaraderie among our group was palpable, making this adventure one for the books. Whether you’re traveling with friends, family, or solo, the Sandy Beach Adventure offers an unforgettable experience that captures the essence of the Adriatic.
