- Cape of Rodon - The Cape of Rodon is a stunning natural marvel and a hidden treasure in Albania. This rocky peninsula extends into the Adriatic Sea and is also known as the Cape of Skanderbeg or “Kepi i Rodonit.”
The cape is lush with natural growth and remains untouched by human development. It is approximately a 2-hour drive from Tirana. However, from the parking area, visitors must hike along a trail for about 45 minutes to reach the cape. At the trail’s end, the Cape of Rodon reveals itself. From the hilltop, there are breathtaking views of the verdant cape stretching into the untamed sea. From there, one can descend to the Cape to explore Rodoni Castle.
During the communist era, the Cape of Rodon was a restricted zone, serving as a coastal military base. Along the hiking trail, numerous bunkers and tunnels can be seen, serving as reminders of the strict communist regime under Enver Hoxha.
- Rodoni Castle - Located on the Cape of Rodon, Rodoni Castle is a must-visit. Also known as Skanderbeg Castle, it was constructed by Albania’s national hero, Skanderbeg. Skanderbeg was a military leader who united the Albanian tribes and led the defense against the Ottoman Turks’ invasion.
Skanderbeg completed the castle around 1452 to secure access to the Adriatic Sea. However, in 1467, the Ottoman Turks destroyed it. The Venetians later rebuilt the castle after 1500.

Cape of Rodon - Upon arriving at the Cape of Rodon, one of the first sights is the Church of St. Anthony. This church is a beautiful landmark, with the sea and beach as its backdrop.
The church was originally constructed in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 15th century. It features a Romanesque-Gothic style and was part of a Franciscan monastery. During the communist regime, it was used as a military depot, but it was restored after the fall of communism. Inside, there are several exquisite frescoes. - Bay of Lalzi - The Bay of Lalzi is one of the most pristine beaches near Tirana. Unlike the larger coastal towns of Durres or Shengjin, Lalzi beach is adorned with pine trees and white sand. The Bay of Lalzi is situated along the same route to the Cape of Rodon, making it an ideal stop on the return journey to Tirana. Visitors can enjoy 2 hours of leisure time to stroll along the white beach and swim. The beach is framed by distant cliffs and is typically tranquil during the summer months.
