- Durres Archaeological Museum - The Archaeological Museum, inaugurated on April 13, 2002, is based on the materials from the First Archaeological Museum, which opened on March 13, 1951. The museum showcases approximately 2,000 archaeological artifacts unearthed from beneath the city. The exhibition is divided into three pavilions according to historical periods, though currently, only the first pavilion is operational. On the first floor, visitors can explore the town’s history from the archaic, classical, and Illyrian periods up to the 1st century BC, continuing with the topographical, economic, political, and cultural development of Durres during the Roman period. At the entrance of the left wing, the Illyrian and ancient Greek periods are displayed in three phases. In the central area, beyond the significant archaeological finds located at the museum’s center, the Roman period is introduced.
- Durres Castle - After exploring the Archaeological Museum for about 30-40 minutes, visitors will drive and partially walk up the hill to the highest rooftop of one of the Castle towers, offering a fantastic view of the entire city and an overview of the castle walls and amphitheater. Visitors will learn about the ancient city of Epydamnos/Dyrrah and its influences. Following this introduction, the tour will proceed to the Amphitheater and other attractions within or outside the castle walls.
- Durres Amphitheatre - The Durres Amphitheater, constructed in the early 2nd century AD during Emperor Trajan’s reign, was declared a Cultural Monument in 1973. This amphitheater, featuring elliptical Roman architecture, is situated in the city center, 350 meters from the sea. With a capacity of 15,000 spectators, it is unique in Albania and one of the largest in the ancient world. Currently, only half of the monument is represented by the staircase, galleries, and two menus. During the visit to the Amphitheater, visitors will see the Chapel, built in the first half of the 5th century. Additionally, the chapel walls feature the only parietal mosaic preserved in Albania. On the south panel, the royal figure of St. Mary is depicted, surrounded by divine characters: angels and other attendants. Meanwhile, the stairs (kavea) lead along beam paths to the arena, facilitating viewer movement. Behind this is a small shrine or mortuary chapel, with two tombs (columbarium) occupying the first two galleries of the gallery.
- Durres - Sightseeing walks around the center and promenade offer insights into ancient sites and the city’s new developments. After walking around the castle walls, the tour will proceed to the Municipality square to learn about the old Roman-style baths/thermae, the forum, and some medieval structures. Following this, the tour will head towards the Venetian tower via the commercial promenade ‘Epidamn,’ where the final stop will be to enjoy a relaxing coffee on its rooftop. During this walk, there will be a brief stop at the Ethnographic Museum/Alexander Moisiu Museum, dedicated to the famous actor of Albanian origin.
