Iskanderkul, the heart of the Fann Mountains, is encircled by several peaks over five thousand meters high, including Bodhona, Chapdara, Maria, Mirali, and Zindon. The tallest is Chimtarga at 5,487 meters. The Fanns feature around a hundred peaks, with several exceeding 5,000 meters in altitude and relative elevations up to 1,500 meters. -
Iskanderkul Lake - 13:00-14:00 - Arrival at Iskandarkul and lunch at Iskandarkul Beach.
Lake Iskanderkul is triangular in shape, covering an area of 3.5 square kilometers with a depth of 70 meters. The lake’s mirror-like surface, surrounded by mountains, is stunning. It is the largest lake in the mountains, situated at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, with a water volume of 172 million cubic meters and a 14,000-meter-long coastline. -
Panj-Chashma Springs - 14:00-15:30 - From Iskanderkul Lake to Panjchashma and Busefal Canyon.
During this time, visitors can explore Busefal Canyon and enjoy swimming and boating in the lake.
According to legend, Bucephalus, the horse of Alexander the Great, drank from the lake and fell ill after a long march. Alexander continued to India, leaving his loyal horse behind. Even from afar, Bucephalus sensed his master’s death and plunged into the lake, remaining there forever. Every full moon, Bucephalus is said to emerge from the water, accompanied by grooms. -
Waterfall of the Fann Mountains - 15:30-16:30 - Hike to Lake Moron and Iskandarkul Waterfall.
The nearby 43-meter waterfall, known as “Fan Niagara,” is located on the river flowing from the lake. A rock with an inscription from 1870, left by an expedition led by the renowned Russian traveler and scientist A. Fedchenko, can also be found here.
Not far from Iskanderkul is another lake called Snake Lake. According to local tales, it is home to many snakes. Locals say the reptiles won’t bite in two situations: when they are in the water and when people drink the water. The water is warmer than in Iskanderkul, making it suitable for swimming. - Dushanbe - 17:00-20:00 - End of the tour, depart from Iskandarkul, and return to Dushanbe.
