Edinburgh to Inverness

Forth Bridge - Departing Edinburgh and heading north, travelers will encounter the Forth Bridge, a remarkable feat of Scottish engineering and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 19th-century marvel was once the world’s longest cantilever bridge. It stands alongside the 20th-century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st-century Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. Pitlochry - Take a break in the historic village of Pitlochry, nestled in the heart of Scotland. Revel in the stunning scenery, fresh air, and the rich clan history of the area.

Cairngorms National Park - Continue north through the western side of the dramatic Cairngorm National Park, the UK’s largest national park. It is cherished for its serene lochs, towering Munros, and significant historical events.

Highland Folk Museum - Experience 18th-century Highland life at the ‘Highland Folk Museum’ in Newtonmore (entry by donation). Discover the simple homes, clothing, and daily lives of people from 300 years ago. The museum also features an on-site café for lunch during the 90-minute visit. As a filming location for ‘Outlander,’ it offers a unique glimpse into the lives and challenges of the Highland people. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The museum is open seasonally and is replaced by Ruthven Barracks in winter.

Clava Cairns - After visiting Culloden, arrive at Clava Cairns, which inspired Diana Gabaldon’s ‘Craig Na Dun’ in the Outlander series. These intriguing Bronze-Age standing stones and burial chambers are believed to be over 4,000 years old. Walk among the stones and learn about their creators and purpose.

Culloden Battlefield - Visit the fields of Culloden Moor, where the infamous 1746 battle occurred, marking the last battle on British soil. This event ended Bonnie Prince Charlie’s aspirations of becoming king. Inverness Cathedral - Arrive in Inverness around 7 PM at the city center drop-off at Inverness Cathedral on Ardross Street, IV3 5NN. The evening is free to explore the city, dine with fellow travelers, or enjoy a meal at a local restaurant or traditional Highland pub. Inverness offers a wide range of dining options, including the national dish of Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, paired with Scotch Whisky or a local organic beer (try the Black Isle Brewery Bar!). During peak season, it’s advisable to book a table in advance for larger groups. After dinner, visit the renowned Hootenanny bar for traditional Scottish music.

Roundtrip to Isle of Skye

Inverness to Edinburgh

Loch Ness - Visit the northern shores of Loch Ness, where an optional boat cruise (tickets not included) offers exploration of the area’s features, history, and lore.
