Amazing super fun and a little bit scary experience, that you should not miss if you are near and enjoy local history and legend - The whole experience was amazing. All actors were amazingly funny. We learned a little bit about Edinburgs history and legends in the best way possible. A bit scary but mostly funny and entertaining. We were also included in the play, we weren't just standing there. My fiancee was trialed as a town looney and I was "tortured" in prison. The actors never went out of character. I just love what they were doing and how they managed to move in the dark and go to perfect spots. The best was the judge and the prison scene, Marry Shelly was also in the top selection. I am really glad that I walked by the Dungeons one day and booked a ticket. For me it was the most entertaining experience in Edinburgh. I would recoment it to anyone who likes to be scared a little, but mostly be entertained, because they never touch you. That makes you feel safe, so you can fully enjoy the experience. 20 out of 10 for me :)

The Right Amount of Scary - We took the grandchildren here after reading the reviews. We were not disappointed. The experience was "just the right amount of scary" for the children. The characters were played with gusto throughout our tour through the rooms. The Bean Cave was my favourite. All the staff were helpful and I would recommend a visit here for any families with children of suitable age and constitution.

Needs Work - We found this embarrassing with "actors" some of whom were presumably padding zero hour contracts in McDonald's. The special effects often didn't work or didn't work on cue. The drop zone wasn't working but we were still charged full price and the whole experience had the feel of a works team building exercise with that horrible sense of enforced fun. It could been so much better. The script and flow from space to space felt very patchy with the court and Sawney Been parts particularly awful. You also have to exit through, not one, but two gift shops.
