Ben will bring these ancient & creepy tales to life - We had really no idea what we were in for, but suspected it might be something like a Ghost/Cemetery tour we took in New Orleans. We couldn't have been more wrong, and I'm so glad! This is not a flashy, loud music playing on a goofy tour bus experience. If that's what you want, you'll have to keep on looking. This is a creepy and somewhat unsettling experience, which is perfect. The best part was our guide, Ben. He has the best accent, which makes everything sound better, but what's more - he is an excellent storyteller. You know how you use those first 5 or 10 minutes to decide what the guide will be like? You'll learn very quickly he has a wonderful sense of humor, and that he really loves what he is doing. I like that he believes and has had encounters with the paranormal, like most of us there. But I especially like that he gives the folks who don't believe a fair chance, just telling them, "well, only you can decide what you believe, but maybe just try being open and then see what you think." He was so happy to take questions and let us take pictures, but the stories and personal experiences were the absolute best part. I highly recommend this tour, and do get Ben if you can. *Side note: I have a knee injury so I was wearing a knee brace and had a hiking stick with me. Even then, there is one street that you must walk on to get the vaults, and it is so incredibly steep. If you have a knee injury, or any kind of injury that makes going down hills hard, you might want to skip this tour. To be fair, Ben made sure to wait for me whilst keeping the group entertained with stories until we could catch up (I leaned on my husband). Now that's the mark of a true professional. Thank you so much!

Fiona your guide... fantastic,! - What a great tour! Our guide, Fiona, was fantastic. She made us feel sad for the families who lived in the vaults and at the same time made the hair rise on the back of my neck with tales of ghosts who still hang around Ediburgh. Must do tour.

Stranger Things - Thanks to Rebecca for a captivating tour showing us the darker side to Edinburgh! There may not of been any 'knockouts' in our group (tour lore for previous fainters) but it was still a knockout experience.

Amazing experience! - On March 19th, 2025, our small lovely group led by charismatic guide Joshua descended into the dark and mysterious vaults of old Edinburgh. I was rather sceptical - until Joshua started telling us his bone-chilling stories, in the complete darkness, illuminated only by the faint light of a lantern. I still get goosebumps when I remember that strange sensation of being in the presence of something dead and ghostly! The frightening reality of the past intertwined with horror. A brilliant and fascinating tour, played out like a small performance. Bravo, Joshua! For the first time in many years, I went to bed that night with the lights on!

Okay, especially if you're into spooky stories - This was okay. The meeting point at St Giles church was very crowded and noisy and it was difficult to hear our guide's introduction/comments. It would be useful for her to have a mic. It was quite a large group - maybe 30 people - and that made it hard for everybody to hear properly. It took some time - maybe 45 minutes - before we actually went 'underground' into the vaults of the South bridge. My main issues were that our guide didn't seem to have enough information about the history of the structures and those who used and lived in them. She was more into telling 'spooky' stories and trying to get people in the mood to be scared of noises etc but it just didn't work for me. I think most of the others in the group seemed to enjoy it. The engineering of the vaults is incredible and I'd like the guides to share more about that aspect. I was also concerned about the safety aspect - we had a member of our group who used a walking cane and I was worried he would slip in the dark on the rocky floor. There should have been a safety briefing at the start.
