The Hermitage Woodland Walk - A leisurely stroll through the stunning Hermitage forest awaits, suitable for all fitness levels. The forest is filled with towering Douglas firs and features the impressive Black Linn waterfall.
Highland Folk Museum - Travel back in time to explore life in the Scottish Highlands from the 1700s to the 1950s. The museum, featured in the ‘Rent’ episode of the Outlander TV series, is open from April to October.
Cairngorms National Park - As the UK’s largest National Park, Cairngorms is home to rare and endangered wildlife. Its breathtaking wilderness, with majestic forests, rivers, and mountains, is the perfect spot for lunch.
Weather permitting, a picnic can be enjoyed on the sandy shores of Loch Morlich. Visitors may also meet some of the park’s reindeer herd, introduced to Scotland in the 1960s.
Clava Cairns - Just a few miles south of Inverness are the 4000-year-old Prehistoric Burial Cairns of Clava. These well-preserved cairns are said to have inspired Diana Gabaldon’s Craigh Na Dun from Outlander.
Inverness - Edinburgh
Loch Ness - Traveling south, the route follows the Caledonian Canal along the Great Glen from Inverness to Fort William. The 60-mile stretch of the Caledonian Canal is renowned for its stunning beauty.
A cruise on the Caledonian Canal to Loch Ness is available, followed by a visit to the ruins of Urquhart Castle. This castle, located at the deepest part of Loch Ness, is famous for numerous Loch Ness monster sightings.
Neptune’s Staircase - Lunch is in the charming village of Banavie, where an easy walk along the Caledonian Canal offers breathtaking views of the Nevis mountain range. Here, the renowned Neptune’s Staircase, a remarkable series of locks, raises the canal by 19m (62ft) over a quarter of a mile.
Glencoe - The next stop is the awe-inspiring Glencoe, known for the infamous Glencoe Massacre. Films like James Bond’s Skyfall, Rob Roy, and the first episode of Outlander have featured Glencoe. The third Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, was filmed here in May and June 2003.
Visitors can pause here to stretch their legs and admire the breathtaking beauty of the Glen.
