• Rjúkandi Waterfall - The tour begins with a drive to Rjúkandi Waterfall in Jökuldalur Valley, where there will be a brief stop to enjoy an easy and accessible walk up to the waterfall. Following this, the journey continues to Stuðlagil Canyon.
• Stuðlagil Canyon - Tucked away in the remote Icelandic countryside, Stuðlagil Canyon is a truly extraordinary destination. This tour visits the west side of the canyon, where scenic walking paths and viewing platforms provide breathtaking panoramic views of the striking basalt columns and the river below.

Reaching the main viewpoints requires a short walk from the parking area, which includes both uphill and downhill sections, as well as a fairly long staircase leading down to the canyon overlook. The total time spent at Stuðlagil Canyon is approximately 1 hour, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the views, explore the platforms, and wander the trails.

During most of the summer, the river’s water is clear with a turquoise hue, but at the beginning of August, it transforms into a greyish glacial water.

Traveling through the charming rural countryside of East Iceland, the journey takes us along the stunning Jökuldalur valley, pausing at the picturesque Rjúkandi Waterfall before heading towards Stuðlagil Canyon.

At Stuðlagil, the visit is to the west side of the canyon, where accessible walking trails and scenic viewing platforms provide spectacular panoramic views of one of Iceland’s most remarkable basalt rock formations. From this vantage point, breathtaking views of the dramatic columns and the glacial river below can be enjoyed — ideal for photography and appreciating the canyon’s grandeur.

Please be aware that this tour does not include the hike down into the canyon on the east side.

After absorbing the magnificent landscapes, the journey continues to the soothing Vök Baths, where naturally heated geothermal pools floating on Lake Urriðavatn offer a relaxing soak. The warm, mineral-rich waters are the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration.
