- Cairo Governorate - The day begins at 8:00 am with a pickup from your hotel by our guide to embark on a full-day tour, starting with a visit to The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization.
- National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) - The main exhibition hall showcases the four primary crafts that shaped Egyptian civilization: pottery, wood, textiles, and ornaments. Here, you can view the world’s oldest prosthetic toe, a skeleton dating back 30,000 years, the last Kaaba Cover made in Egypt during President Nasser’s era, and the Mahmal, which was used to transport the cover from Egypt to Saudi Arabia annually in a grand parade. The NMEC is the first museum worldwide to provide a comprehensive view of Egyptian civilization throughout history, from prehistory to modern times. It displays various artifacts illustrating Egyptian civilization across different eras, including the predynastic and Ancient Egyptian periods, the Greco-Roman, Coptic, Islamic, and modern history. Visitors can also see the Kaaba key, the Clepsydra (an ancient time-measuring device), and all the royal mummies.
- Cairo Citadel - The Citadel of Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) is one of the most iconic monuments in Islamic Cairo and among the most impressive medieval defensive fortresses. Its strategic location on the Muqattam Hills provided a formidable defensive position and offers, as it still does today, an unrestricted panoramic view of Cairo. Sultan Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi initiated the construction of a fortress on the Muqattam Hills in 572 AH/1176 AD, but it was completed during the reign of Sultan al-Kamel ibn al-Adel (604 AH/1207 AD), who made it the official residence of Egypt’s rulers. In the mid-nineteenth century, Khedive Ismail moved the official residence to Abdeen Palace in downtown Cairo. The Citadel has witnessed significant events in Egyptian history from its construction to the end of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty.
- Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary) - The Hanging Church is named for its location above a gatehouse of the Babylon Fortress, the Roman fortress in Coptic Cairo (Old Cairo); its nave is suspended over a passage. The church is accessed by twenty-nine steps, leading early travelers to Cairo to call it “the Staircase Church.” The land surface has risen by about six meters since the Roman period, so the Roman tower is mostly buried, reducing the visual impact of the church’s elevated position. The entrance from the street is through iron gates under a pointed stone arch. Beyond a narrow courtyard adorned with modern biblical art designs, the nineteenth-century façade with twin bell towers is visible. Up the steps and through the entrance is another small courtyard leading to the eleventh-century outer porch.
- Synagogue Ben Ezra - The Ben Ezra Synagogue (Hebrew: בית כנסת בן עזרא, Arabic: معبد بن عزرا), sometimes called the El-Geniza Synagogue (Hebrew: בית כנסת אל גניזה) or the Synagogue of the Levantines (al-Shamiyin), is located in Old Cairo, Egypt. According to local folklore, it is the site where baby Moses was found. This synagogue’s genizah, or storeroom, was discovered in the 19th century to contain a treasure trove of abandoned Hebrew, Aramaic, and Judeo-Arabic secular and sacred manuscripts. The collection, known as the Cairo Geniza, was brought to the University of Cambridge in England by Solomon Schechter’s initiative. It is now divided among several academic libraries, with the majority housed at the Cambridge University Library.
- Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church - Abu-Sergah & St. Barbara in Old Cairo is an iconic religious site that beautifully preserves the essence of ancient Egypt. Located in Old Cairo, this captivating complex stands as a beacon of Coptic Christianity and an embodiment of the country’s fascinating history. Admire the stunning craftsmanship and timeless beauty displayed in the intricate designs, ancient relics, and sacred icons throughout the church and monastery. Whether you are intrigued by architecture, spirituality, or simply appreciate the allure of historical landmarks, Abu-Sergah & St. Barbara in Old Cairo offers an enriching experience like no other.
