• San Martín 872 - This is a thrilling rafting adventure on the Río de las Vueltas, a river with glacial origins that begins at Lago del Desierto and flows into Lake Viedma.

The journey begins at the Comarka Rafting dome, where guides welcome participants and provide them with the necessary technical gear. Once equipped, participants travel with the guides in a van to the river’s entry point, just 5 minutes from the base. Here, a technical and safety briefing is conducted.

The initial stretch of the river spans 6 km of serene, winding waters, offering a chance to admire Cerro Fitz Roy and its surrounding peaks, the Andean forest, the steppe, and possibly native wildlife and birds. This is the perfect time to familiarize oneself with the raft and practice the rowing and safety techniques discussed.

The second segment takes adventurers through the canyon area. After navigating the first rapid, “Portage,” participants will encounter a series of class III to III+ rapids over 10 km, providing an exhilarating and adrenaline-pumping experience. Once the descent is complete, a van will be ready to transport participants back to the base, where they can change and enjoy a snack and drink to recharge.

Rafting combines thrill, excitement, and a rush of adrenaline, and the Rio de las Vueltas provides a perfect environment for it. Initially, the serene river water lets us bond with the natural surroundings and marvel at the stunning view framed by the striking Cerro Fitz Roy and its accompanying pinnacles, along with potential sightings of local wildlife and birds. After traversing about 5 kms, we encounter the first rapid, termed ‘Portage’ by the guides. This event initiates a series of rapids stretching for approximately 10 kms, resulting in a surge of adrenaline and enjoyment, and injecting the right amount of adventure into an experience that will engage all your senses and afford a completely novel view of Patagonia.
