A great day off from hiking or climbing - I try to do a via ferrata in each country I visit if it's available. Because El Chalten is popular with real climbers, the via ferrata isn't as popular, but Estancia Bonanza does have a beginner one (level A) that is perfect for someone looking to try a via ferrata for the first time. It's easy - as an over 60 year old with a bad back I had no issues with it. Safety comes first, as they use a C-carabiner system instead of the dual clip system favored in Europe, thus excluding the possibility of a climber forgetting to clip in and clip out correctly. The whole ferrata takes about 1.5 hours and involves some basic climbing as well as two high wires and a zip line, the guides are helpful and patient. You have the option for an estancia barbeque, which I almost skipped, yet it was the best roast lamb I had on the trip so am glad I tried it. I also stayed for the horseback ride, which was a typical nose-tail ride up a valley with minimal excitement.

Excellent climbing experience, without needing to know technique or be in great physical condition. - We did the Via Ferrata excursion, highly recommended. We had no climbing experience, but it was quite easy to learn the necessary technique. At all times you feel very safe, it is a great climbing experience without so much physical or technical demand. The landscape you see is spectacular and the zip line descent is safe but full of adrenaline.

Disappointing Customer Service - To say that we were disappointed is a complete understatement. We were visiting the south of Argentina and staying in El Calafate which is approximately a 3 hour drive away from El Chalten. We booked the 3 hrs de Escala y Caminata en Via Ferrata del Cañadón tour for our 24 year old children, 2 1/2 weeks in advance of our trip, through Viator. After making the 3 hour drive, we dropped our kids off at Bonanza and explored the area on our own. Two hours later, as we drove by Bonanza, we saw our kids outside the building. As it turns out, Bonanza was not offering the tour we paid for on this day. After over an hour, when a Bonanza employee finally realized they were just sitting there waiting, they were offered a horseback riding tour which left hours later, but since we had to leave the area by a certain time to make the 3 hour drive back, and this is not what they had anticipated and looked forward to, they declined. When we arrived and spoke to the employees, they did offer to credit the cost of the tour we paid for. However, this was not sufficient to make up for the fact that we specifically rented a car to make this drive, stayed an extra night in El Calafate and lost an entire day of our hard-earned vacation. When we requested additional compensation, we were offered a dinner which unfortunately did not work with our tight travel schedule as we would have had to stay in El Chalten for several more hours for this 8 PM dinner (it was about 4:30 PM at this time). At this time we asked to speak to a manager whom we were told was away and not reachable due to personal reasons Again, we more strongly and firmly requested another form of compensation. This request was again declined. This entire situation was unacceptable and for this reason we do not recommend Bonanza.
