Aswan
Temple of Philae - Early in the morning, travelers will be transferred to the airport for a short domestic flight to Aswan. Upon arrival, they will board a 5-star Nile cruise ship, Ms Mochjto, for embarkation and lunch. The itinerary includes visits to Aswan, including the Temple of Philae, a Felucca tour around Elephantine, the High Dam, and the Unfinished Obelisk.
Philae Temple
Built to honor the goddess Isis, this was the last temple constructed in the classical Egyptian style. Construction began around 690 BC, and it was one of the last places where the goddess was worshipped.
Aswan High Dam - The High Dam
The Aswan High Dam is a rock-fill dam located at the northern border between Egypt and Sudan. It is fed by the River Nile, forming Lake Nasser. Construction began in 1960 and was completed in 1968, with its official inauguration in 1971.
Unfinished Obelisk - The Unfinished Obelisk
Aswan was the source of ancient Egypt’s finest granite, used for statues and temple embellishments. The large unfinished obelisk in the Northern Quarries offers valuable insights into the creation of these monuments, though the full construction process remains unclear. Three sides of the nearly 42m long shaft were completed, except for the inscriptions. At 1168 tonnes, the finished obelisk would have been the heaviest stone piece ever crafted by the Egyptians.
