The Gorilla Trekking Experience

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Start your day with a nutritious breakfast, ideally fruits and cereal, to fuel your trek. A lunch pack will be provided at the lodge, and your driver will ensure you arrive at the Nkuringo visitor center by 7:30 am for the briefing. Following the briefing, the warden will organize travelers into groups of eight, assigning a gorilla group based on physical ability. A walking stick will be provided, and it’s recommended to hire a porter for $20. This local support can assist with navigating muddy slopes or carrying your backpack, while also benefiting the local community.

Accompanied by two armed rangers and an expert guide, you’ll embark on the trekking trail, disappearing under the dense forest canopy. The trek can be demanding, taking anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours to locate the habituated gorillas.

Upon finding the gorillas, you’ll have the privilege of spending 60 minutes with them.

Hike Across Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - This segment of the adventure will immerse you in the captivating allure of this ancient wilderness, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With a bit of fortune, you might encounter forest inhabitants such as chimps, forest elephants, duikers, forest buffalo, and various primates. Alternatively, admire the unique overgrown plant species and the vibrant array of over 300 butterfly species. Birds like the African green broadbill, great blue turaco, Grauer’s swamp warbler, Turner’s Eremomela, Shelley’s crimson wing, and Chapin’s flycatcher will surely catch your attention as they soar beneath the canopy.

You’ll traverse rivers, streams, and shaky bridges, climb over fallen stumps, and walk through damp forest floors, connecting you to the origins of humanity. At the journey’s end, your driver will be ready to transport you through picturesque landscapes to your luxurious forest cottage perched above the impenetrable jungle you’ve just explored.

This Uganda gorilla adventure explores the untamed jungles of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to find a mountain gorilla family and spend one electrifying hour silently observing their evolutionary life in the wild. You’ll travel by air across southwestern’s Tuscan-like landscape and stay at an exclusive forest hideaway on a ridge above the pristine rainforest.

The adventure includes an off-the-beaten-path experience in the remote villages surrounding Bwindi. You’ll take a traditional dug-out canoe across a gorgeous lake surrounded by breathtaking mountainous views. Walk through cultivated gardens of steep slopes, passing villagers ploughing the gardens, and hike through remote villages with kids chanting their excitement on seeing you.

You’ll also have a chance to explore the region on foot and cross the jungle on a 7-km trail. The trail offers a dramatic, steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists.
