Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - After breakfast, your driver guide will transport you to Kisoro, Uganda, located at the base of the Virunga Volcanoes. Enjoy the winding roads and breathtaking views of the volcanoes. Cross the Equator to the western part of Uganda, where you can admire the scenic views of long-horned cattle.

Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - Mgahinga Gorilla National Park was primarily established to protect mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, among other wildlife. Your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge and take you to the briefing point inside the park to learn how to interact with the gorillas in the wild.

Depending on the gorillas’ location, you may need to drive before starting the trek in the park. The ranger guide will then lead you on your gorilla trek. After hiking some distance, depending on the gorillas’ location, you will spot them and spend up to one hour with them before descending back to the lodge. This jungle experience and encounter with these magnificent creatures will be unforgettable.

Golden Monkey Trekking

Mount Sabinyo - After an early breakfast, your driver guide will take you to the briefing point where the golden monkey trekking begins. Similar to the previous day, you will receive a briefing from the ranger guide before starting your hike up Mgahinga National Park in search of the golden monkeys, which are unique to the Virunga Volcanoes.

Golden monkeys are generally swift in their movements, unlike gorillas, and you will follow them as they move to feed. They prefer bamboo shoots over other vegetation. The initial part of the hike is through secondary forest and shrubs, but as you venture deeper into the forest, you will enter the bamboo sections where you will start hearing sounds and seeing movements of these fascinating creatures. You are allowed one hour with the golden monkeys before descending back to the starting point.

Walk in the Footsteps of the Batwa

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - The Batwa are an indigenous tribe that lived in the forest and relied on it for their livelihood as hunter-gatherers. However, over time, other groups began influencing the Batwa, leading to unsustainable poaching, prompting the government to relocate them from the forest.

This morning, your driver guide will take you to the briefing area. After a briefing from the Batwa guide leader, with translation from the ranger guide, they will lead you on a journey through the forest, sharing how they lived and depended on it.

Hike Sabyinyo, Muhabura, or Gahinga Volcanoes

Mount Muhavura - Early in the morning, after breakfast, prepare for a mountain hike. Mt. Muhabura, standing at 4,127 meters (13,540 feet) above sea level, is the most challenging peak in the park. The hike will take most of the day, but adventurers are rewarded with a great sense of accomplishment and, on a clear day, spectacular views of Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. This peak is shared between Uganda and Rwanda and takes approximately 8 hours to hike.
