• Carara National Park - Located in the Turrubares and Garabito cantons, within the provinces of San José and Puntarenas, between coordinates 9º51’ and 9º44’ North latitude, 84º36’ and 84º29’ East longitude. It is 90 kilometers from San José on the Costanera Sur highway. The main entrance is 2 kilometers south of the Río Grande de Tárcoles bridge. Carara National Park, meaning “river of lizards” in the Huetar indigenous language, features the only transitional forest in the Central Pacific, showcasing a rich diversity of flora and fauna where species from both dry and rain forests meet. This national park is a globally recognized ornithological destination, boasting an incredibly diverse bird population, particularly the scarlet macaw (Ara macao), an endangered species and the second largest Psittacidae species in Costa Rica.
