Great place for lunch - Great establishment that offers a small lunchtime restaurant as well as a shop with very diverse items. There is also the possibility to do a cooking workshop (to book) Cleanliness of the premises ++ Chocolate fondant and quiche are delicious, I strongly advise!

Fun tagine-cooking experience - There were 7 of us (max 8) and we prepared and cooked a lamb tagine and vegetable briouat (little triangular filled pastries) over the course of a morning. While the tagines continued to cook we were taken to a spice stall in the medina where the owner, Mohammed Seddiki, gave us a fascinating tour of his shelves. Then back to L'atelier for the finishing flourish - eating our results over lunch! Very well organised; instruction in French and English - all materials prepared and ready to chop/ prepare at immaculately clean work-stations. Aysha was our local chef instructor, ably supported by Izzac (who also took us round the medina). 600 dirhams (about £50) per person. A really interesting experience offering fascinating insights to culinary aspects of Morocco.

A beautiful side of Essaouria - The food we ended up cooking tasted amazing, but the experience of preparing it and learning about the Moroccan culture was even better! From the preparation of the tea when we arrived, to the trip to the souks to learn about spices, we felt like we have seen a part of Essaouria and Morocco that we haven't experienced before. The hosts were knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and very very welcoming. The instruction was bilingual, in perfect French and English and different levels of cooking ability were catered for. The kitchen was beautiful, all the utensils clean and sharp and the pace of the course was good. Some of our course mates had already booked more courses with the same school. Thank you for a lovely experience, Alice and Serge

Great opportunity to learn about Moroccan cuisine and have a great lunch - What a fabulous experience with very knowledgeable friendly ladies who took us through a mint tea ceremony, a lamb tagine and briouats. All were delicious and we enjoyed the trip to the market for spices as well. Merci beaucoup

Great beginner introduction to general cooking with Moroccan spices. - The kitchen was immaculate and spacious. The dish we prepared was lamb tagine and very tasty. However, from an experienced cook's p.o.v., I didn't feel I learned much about Moroccan cuisine per say - the deeper traditions of spice combinations, instead of simply chopping and adding a 1/2 tsp of this and a full tsp of that. The appetizer we made - zaalouk - was different: it had a firm but not solid consistency and a medium kick of spice. The instructions were clear, but again, with no special insights. During the cooking process, we went out into the Medina and visited a spice merchant who spoke well about the uses of many spices, both culinary and medicinal. We sniffed many and sampled some. It was a lot of good information. Back at the atelier, we played our meal and shared it at a common round table with photos and farewells. A solid 4 out of 5.
