Bale Mountains National Park - Start the day early and drive to Dinsho, where the Bale Mountains National Park Headquarters is located.
On the way to Dinsho, make a stop at Lake Ziway to observe the local bird species.
Continue heading south and pause for lunch in the town of Shashmene, which is 250 km from Addis.
Arrive in Dinsho by late afternoon and visit the Bale Mountains National Park headquarters to complete the necessary paperwork for trekking in the park.
If time allows, take a short hike in the northern part of the park near your overnight accommodation.
Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at the Dinsho guest house.
DINSHO / SODOTA. Trekking
Bale Mountains National Park - After breakfast, start the trek from Dinsho to Sodota. This trek covers approximately 20 km and takes about 6 – 7 hours.
Today’s trek offers a great opportunity to spot the Mountain Nyala, Menelik Bush Buck, Warthog, and the Ethiopian Wolf.
Bird species you might encounter include the thick-billed Raven, Wattled Ibis, Blue-winged Goose, and Rouget’s Rail.
Have lunch at the midpoint of the trek.
Enjoy dinner and camp overnight at Sodota.
SODOTA / WASAMA
WASAMA
Bale Mountains - In the morning, trek from Garba Guracha to Wasama. The day’s trek will take between 6 – 7 hours.
Along the route, there will be a climb up Mount Wasama, which is situated at 4200 meters above sea level. The area around the mountain is adorned with giant lobelia and other plants typical of high-altitude Afro-Alpine landscapes.
In the evening, have dinner and camp overnight at Garba Guracha.
