Ert-Ale

Begin the day early to catch a flight to Semera, the capital of the Afar region. Upon arrival, be greeted by skilled drivers and travel in a comfortable 4WD with AC, accompanied by a team of expert guides, an excellent cook, local guides, and a road leader from the tourism authorities. All camping gear is prepared for departure to the Ert-Ale active volcano. Arrive at the camping site atop the Caldera and walk for an hour to reach the summit Crater Lake, currently in its active phase. Witness the natural marvel before returning to the campsite. Depart for the volcano around 5:30 PM and return after exploring around 8:00 PM. Enjoy an overnight open-air camping experience on flat ground with a comfortable mattress, pillow, clean bed sheets, and a peaceful environment.

Hamedela
Dallol - Total driving distance: 300 km / 6-7 hours
Total walking distance: 1 hour 30 minutes.
Rise early at around 5 AM to witness the sunrise, then return to camp for breakfast. Drive to Lake Afdera, a salt lake located in the heart of the Danakil Depression, and enjoy a swim. Continue the journey to Hamedela town in Dallol. Experience the sunset at Lake Assale in the late afternoon. Spend the night camping in the open air with clean beds, mattresses, pillows, fresh bed sheets, and ample water for hydration.

Addis Ababa
Afar Region - Day 3: Dallol – Semera – Addis Ababa
Total driving distance: 350 km / 7-8 hours
Total walking distance: 2 hours 30 minutes.
Start the day early and drive to Lake Assale to catch the sunrise, then proceed to the lunar landscape of the Dallol geothermal site, a unique natural wonder. Observe the fascinating chemical reactions and vibrant colors. Afterward, visit the salt and mud-formed mountain cave beneath the Dallol crater, just a 10-minute drive away, and explore a completely different world. Enjoy a picnic breakfast near the cave. Next, travel to the expansive salt plains of Lake Karum, swim in the saltwater pool under the intense sun, and meet the salt miners before returning to Hamedela. From Hamedela, drive to Semera and fly back to Addis Ababa.
