A scenic 5–10 minute walk will follow to visit this remarkable solitary stone. Please be aware that the path is in poor condition, which may pose challenges for those with limited mobility.
Following this, the drive will continue through the cork trees on the Almendres property, heading towards the Cromlech of Almendres, often called the Stonehenge of Portugal. The road to the Cromlech is in poor condition and has been closed by the Municipality of Évora (they have also advised against driving beyond this point), so the van will be parked, and a ~25-minute walk (1.25 km or 0.77 miles) will be taken to reach the monument.
At the site, there will be a continuation of the discussion on the Neolithic period, along with an overview of the theories related to the monument. Insights into the history of this site will be provided by archaeologists specializing in the region’s prehistory.
- Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres - After visiting the Almendres Cromlech, the group will walk back to the van and gradually exit the Almendres complex.
Upon leaving the property, a stop will be made at the gift shop (Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres) if it is open, allowing some free time to browse and explore.
The return journey to Évora will then begin, with drop-offs scheduled between 12:00-13:00 (morning tour) & 17:00-18:00 (afternoon tour).
