- Delta Junction - Make a quick stop for restroom breaks and to grab any last-minute snacks or lunch items before proceeding towards Paxson and the Denali Highway.
- Paxson - Leave the paved road and enter the historic Denali Highway, which opened in 1957 as the original route to Denali before the Parks Highway was completed in the 1970s. Today, it offers a quieter, less-traveled path through vast Interior landscapes.
- Denali Highway - Spend the main part of the day traveling through the expansive Denali Highway, with its big skies, glacial basins, lakes, and sweeping views of the Alaska Range.
Enjoy a lunch break at the Tangle Lakes area, either at the lodge or with a packed meal. Guests can take in the lake views and, weather permitting, opt for a short walk to a nearby higher viewpoint for broader vistas of the surrounding basins and mountains.
Further along, there may be a chance to walk a short distance up the lower section of the MacLaren Summit Trail for views and photos. Near Cantwell, there is often time for a brief stroll up the Wolf Point Trail for elevated views. These are short, easy walks designed to experience the terrain on foot before continuing.
- Cantwell - Make a brief stop after leaving the Denali Highway. On clear days, enjoy expansive views of the Alaska Range and, occasionally, Denali.
- George Parks Highway - Enjoy a scenic return to Fairbanks through Interior forests and river valleys, arriving back in town by evening.

This tour offers an exploration of Alaska’s wild Interior landscapes, venturing far beyond Denali National Park. It is distinct from the Denali Park Road or park bus tours. Throughout the day, participants delve deeper into the Interior’s expansive wilderness, transitioning from boreal forests to vast glacial basins, open spruce areas, lakes, and elevated terrains along the Alaska Range, providing a vivid understanding of the region’s vastness and diverse ecosystems.
The journey predominantly follows the Denali Highway, a secluded, lightly traveled gravel road, far removed from park crowds and typical tourist routes, where the landscape feels open, serene, and remarkably varied. Instead of merely passing by, participants spend time in these areas, enjoying lunch in the Tangle Lakes region, taking a short walk to a higher viewpoint, and engaging in additional brief strolls along nearby trails or pullouts to truly experience the land.
Groups are limited to just seven guests, with empty middle seats, and travel with a local guide who offers insights into the areas being explored.
