A Warm Welcome in Istanbul

As I stepped off the bustling streets of Istanbul and into the historic Sirkeci Train Station, I was immediately enveloped by a sense of anticipation. The air was filled with the aroma of street foods, a prelude to the culinary journey that awaited us. Our guide, Eylül, affectionately known as Lulu, greeted us with a warmth that transcended language barriers. Her vibrant energy was infectious, and it was clear from the outset that this was going to be a special evening.

Our group was a tapestry of cultures, with travelers from four different countries, each eager to delve into the rich tapestry of Turkish heritage. Lulu’s ability to weave the historical and cultural narratives of the dervish tradition into a cohesive story was nothing short of masterful. Following the performance, we were whisked away to a 140-year-old family-owned restaurant in Kadinlar Pazari. The ambiance was intimate and inviting, a perfect setting for the feast that was to come. The dinner was a celebration of Turkish cuisine, with more than ten traditional dishes laid out before us. Each dish was a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Turkey, from the flavorful kebabs to the delicate mezes.

What made the evening truly unforgettable was Lulu’s personal touch. She had remembered that it was one of our group member’s birthday and surprised them with a special dessert, complete with a chorus of happy birthday sung by the entire group. It was a gesture that spoke volumes about her thoughtfulness and dedication to creating memorable experiences for her guests.

As the evening drew to a close, Lulu presented each of us with a small gift, a token to remember our time in Istanbul.
